I wanted a Mark 1 Golf GTI. 28 years old, good postcode, driveway parking, but no car licence... 3 years clean on the bike though. £900 TPF&T for a car worth around £2000. Oh well.

If you have transfered the ownership of the car to her and you are listed as the second driver, and the car is taxed etc it doesn't call a problem. I will mean that you are unlikley to get a NCB which isn't going to help your cause.

Default Try NI insurance prices

When I moved back home from Oxfordshire to N.I. my first car qoute was triple what I was paying in England!!! I did manage to get it down to just double after a lot of shopping around. Just watch all the insurance adverts and you can see how many dont even cover our cars and bikes in N.I. Insurnace here is a joke and rip off.

Living in London with a new license, I think you did well! You should have heard the conversation I had with a guy at Carol Nash when I wanted to insure my car. They wouldn't insure me on a 1.6 litre Alfa Romeo 147 with a tiny 120 bhp and a 0-MPH time of 10.6 seconds as it's too powerful for such a young driver. Now I've had a car license for 5 years and I'm 23, plus I do ride a motorbike which is insured with them and the car is listed as a group 11 car so as you can imagine I wasn't impressed.

In the end I had to put my brother down as the main driver with the policy in his name, he has 5 years no claims where as I have none on cars at least, and that took the quote I got of £3700 down to £1500, but that's still a rip off on a £7K car.

I've always found Its4me to be the cheapest for cars, but you've already tried them so that's not going to help.

Try again on the first available weekday of the month.

At the begining of the month they are cheaper so they get their targets,
at the end of the month if they have reached their targets they will quote more because they aint to bothered if they take your money or not,
and if they do then they made a few £100 on top!

Unless you have already bought the car try getting something with a lower insurance group like a fiat cin... (sorry no idea how to spell it) which i think is group 3.

I know this is a bit riddiculous but if you really need a car and can't afford the insurance classics like 2cv's are very cheap to run and insurure, just hope u dont have to do great distances.

Bloody Nora!

Thats alot for a car like that!

Something on the radio yesterday about insurance (all types) they were saying that car drivers who drive 'old bangers' (not saying yours is an old banger) insure their cars, have a knock,DON'T claim on their insurance, but then PAY to get it repaired.

So they suggested increasing the EXCESS to as much as you can, that way you get a cheaper policy, and if you do have a knock you pay yourself.

This is only good if the knock doesn't involve anybody else IMO,because lets say you increse your excess to £2000 and you hit lets say a 2006 BMW M5,they are about £70K new,so you MAY have to pay your £2000 excess, plus losing your NCB.

Whereas if you hit the same vehicle with a £200 excess, you may lose your NCB,but you'll be better off financially.

Depends how you drive etc I spose.

(I pay £200 for F.Comp on a '95 BMW 520i,Im 27 with FNCB) just to rub it in a bit
