Nah, not really, it's just not for detecting low oil- there are other problems that can cause low oil pressure that are salvagable if you stop riding. The SV does have a low level sensor, you work it by looking in the wee window

Not much good if you're currently riding. I know you should check before riding, but dammit I'm lazy!

I like these 'my engines blown up as it ran low/out of oil' threads.

They remind me to check the level on my bike!

Crap or damage in the oiling system would be the obvious ones...

Ah Rictus you do make I larf. Is this the same for your chain as well?

What do you do with the speedo and a new lump? Should you change both?

What ever the heck you like
But if you're thinking of resale value then note the mileage you change engines (as the engine will now not match V5 - Do you have to inform DVLA???) And keep as much info as you have on the new engine e.g. proof of mileage done

Actually your post is more likely to make me check my oil than 1/2 life's!
It gets so soul destroying checking it and always seeing it fine that you eventually stop checking but the thought of £350 - £400 bill (plus the shame of coming on here to start a new thread ) should keep me in check for a while
