I agree that bringing in foriegn workers is not right, but we must ask ourselves why Total are doing it. Are British workers less reliable or are we asking for too much pay? The British government are also partly to blame, they need to bring in laws that favour British workers over foriegn workers. Other countries have these laws so why can't the UK?

Of course the cynic in me just wonders if it's a bit nippy out and all these daily mail reading pie munching BNP voters simply fancy a bit of time off work... they need to just suck it up, realise that if they don't want companies to use overseas workers then they'll have to either get better skills or accept lower pay, but they'd all go on strike if they tried that too

i think theres probably more foreign workers here than Uk nationals, im still at work.

you need to give employers a reason to want to employ you, not going to work doesnt exactly do that

I dont see that 1939 has anything to do with it at all, there's a big difference between defending your country against the threat of military attack and having a beef with some fuel company.

Almost all large companies use some form of cheap (read...competitively priced) labour, it makes commercial sense to do so.

The point that I was trying to get across was, that if you want to stop something that you think is not right from happening, then you have to stand up and be counted and not sit back and let it happen. I wasn't comparing this none event with the second world war.

fair enough, its just that I think people will react differently depending on the situation. With the second world war they obviously felt it was important enough to stand up and be counted. With this 'Total' thing, I dont think it will make any difference.

We arent a solitary nation, we are entwined into Europe with all the good and bad things that that entails.
