yeah i wont get a dell now, i have priced the build that the guy is selling and the parts work out just more expensive that he is selling for, most other custom pc places that you can get quotes come out £200+ more expensive

PC Gamer has an ongoing feature where they've built a good games PC and every month they tweak or upgrade something and list all the bits they currently have in it.

I'm not as down with PC stuff any more but maybe someone could advise whether an i5/i7 would be better than a Q6600 nowadays...

just build you own much more fun and you get a better feeling when you power it on for the first time, you know what's gone in it and by god have you seen how much thermal compound they use on pre builds lmao ... the first thing I would be doing is removing the H/S and Fan and cleaning it up and replacing it.....

i5/i7 will kill a q6600 in most things but high cost puts me off because you dont see that performance unless you are pushing games at 1920x1200+ and if you graphics card can handle it

my rig at the moment is kinda old but can still push most games to the max including the likes of crysis

T260HD 26inch 1920x1200 monitor
2x4gb OCZ reaper 1200mhz ddr2 ram
XFX tri SLI 780i motherboard
intel E8400 3ghz (OC'd to 4.5ghz)
2x 9800gtx+
exilence 750w mod psu
gigabyte aurora 3D 570 (modded)
7x 120mm case fans
Tuniq tower 120 cooler
ASUS xonar d2
cooler master HDD bay
2x 500gb HDD
1x 200gb HDD

and kung ku style cable management

Who was it that said "Buy a Dell".

I am inclined to say the same if you just want a one stop shop for a reasonably inexpensive and specced system.

www.overclockers.co.uk sell bundles and barebones, they also do pre-overclocked bundles which look quite good, I am seriously considering buying this one.

Er, that would be me. As I work for them I'd be a pretty poor employee if I didn't speak up for them...

One other Dell avenue for you all before you say no is our Outlet Store. The terms of our gaurantee mean if you don't like it we take it back. Once checked and refurbished they're sold through this official store. Some may have cosmetic blemishes but these are noted, some may be surplus and unopened (we shipped six to a company instead of five), some are fine but missing an optional item like the integrated webcam.

Some good discounts but it does depend on what they have in at any time of course.

Mods: please remove if this breaches the advertising rules but this is a link freely available from Google and the like.

I was thinking keith_d, but yeah you are right. It is hard to get past their online purchase and optioning system and there are some bargains to be had at a Dell Outlet.
