Anyhow... in a Representative democracy, the representatives are meant to act in the people's interests. I cannot find stats to back this up but... I don't believe the majority of people support confusing road speed changes.

Sorry but this is not the case for first class post, though it was always believed to have worked like this. At a case last year Gidden vs Chief Constable of Humberside it was ruled that a NIP which was posted two days after the offence but which arrived 16 days after the offence was invalid, since it fell outside of the 14 day window. BBC report here, and (very large) PistonHeads thread here.

In these times of budget cuts, they need every penny they can get

The ACPO guidelines are +10% + 2mph, which is 35mph in a 30mph zone.

Ohh, throwing stated cases at me!!

That's certainly a new one on me, and all the others on here, interesting though. Sure RH and BP would like to see this one, if they are not already aware of it.

Oh well guess I will have to accept my fate - moral of the story is if you're gonna get done for speeding may as well be going 60mph instead of 36mph!!! No no I jest...!

Guys, just to make it clear, from reading through, this DOES NOT apply to NIP's sent recorded/special delivery, only first class post.

So if I was to send you a NIP by first class, and sent it the day after the offence but you didn't receive it til 16 days after the offence, you may have a case:

BUT

If the same thing were to happen and I sent it recorded delivery then what I said previously does apply.

There is a subtle difference between not wanting to be bound by speed limits, and acknowledging that they may be there for the public good.

Not really. Doing 50mph on a 30mph on a dual carriage way costing me £450 in fines and 9 points in court. That translated to double insurance as well for the next 3-4 years for both car and bike and that's probably a grand extra.

You should be happy, this is easy!
