embee beat me on this.
I made a plate from aluminium and fitted it to the RH bottom radiator bolt. I noticed that some newer bikes have a plastic plate hanging from the bottom of the radiator.
I had riden my bike on a gravel ( metal ) road that was wet and muddy, for about 30 miles. This fired crap and crud everywhere and blocked the drain hole. When I rode in heavy rain the front plug quit. I will get the fender extender as well. I am assuming they are made in England.

I had a similar problem. Silocone grease did the trick... but I found I had to coat the entire lead as sometimes I would lose the spark from the lead to the engine. I suppose it depends on the leads, how clean they are and how close they run to the top of the engine. I cleaned and greased the lead every couple weeks and drove my bike in terrible rain without a hiccup ever since.
