Go through a normal insurance company, they will ask if it's for business or social domestic and pleasure.

I'm 32, been driving since I was 17.
I have a PSV licence, HGV class 2, done my advanced car test, and got a full bike licence too. I do about 35 thousand miles a year in my car plus whatever I do on the bike. My mum is "over 21" (shes been telling me shes 21 for the past 20 years ![]() Shes got an N reg nissan almeria GTI that shes had from new that has 30 thousand miles on it in total. Mum (bless her) never touches my car as "its too big" for her to drive, but has been on my insurance for the last 10 years or so. If you name drivers (with their permission of course) it can sometimes reduce the amount you pay on your premium. Having mum on my insurance now reduces it by about £50, not a lot I'll admit, but when I was 18 and driving a 1.9 205 GTi It hacked about £200 quid off. I dont know how they work it out as insurance companys are "weird" at best. But it could be worth you adding your parents, grandparents, close friends to your policy (as long as they have a good insurance history that is.) Jenn (my long suffering mrs) has added my mum, her mum etc to her policy, shes 27 (nearly) and has been driving for just under 2 years. She found the same thing, add a few people that could in theory be driving your car at some stage and the premium dropped. |

I don't see what there is to complain about.
Case in point. When I was at uni many years ago my golf cost 500 quid to insure tpf&t. I go back to Northern Ireland for the summer and it goes up to 1800 quid, more than triple what I paid at uni!!! then they refund the difference when i go back!! It is a fact of life that younger drivers are a liability in the eyes of insurers as I have been there and modifying a car only makes things worse. Dropping the car's ride height and your looking another 500 quid onto the cost of your insurance. Now that I'm alot older the insurance has come down but still, my insurance would be alot cheaper if I were back living on the UK mainland. You'll just have to stomach the insurance and take care of the license cause that's what i've had to do. try to get a car with an alarm and immobiliser and buy like a steering wheel lock etc. Some insurers offer more discounts for such things. All I'm saying is that there is no consistency with quotes with the examples I gave. How can a 1.1 Suzuki Alto cost more to insure than than a 2.3 Ford Galaxy? Both cars are worth about the same and she can also insure a 1991 XR2i for even less ![]()

Tesco car insurance is cheap. Cost me £400 fc on my 1.8 landrover freelander. Mind you no one will nick it and if they do they won't get away fast. Still its a car maybe 10 yearold but don't look too bad for it.

the last i got told re car insurances was the cost to repair is a big factor - so there are more ford galaxy's than suzuki alto - more parts produced economies of scale apply and there fore should be cheaper. saying that I put my dad onmy insurance and it drops. it cost me £337 FC for 02 Mer A class this year with 9+ NCB plus a claim last year (old car written off)
bikes - 07 Kwak 5k miles pa Class 1 Business use inc Pillion cover legal expenses riding other bikes 4 NCB FC - £118 not complaining! Cheaper than the Honda! |
