Yeah .... probably one of those moments where you are more worried about how much of an idiot you looked compared to how worried you are about the damage

+1 to what Badger said. I realy dont see why people have disc locks. Everyone I know who has one has caused damage to their bike with it. Just seems pointless.

I have a big fat chain I wrap around the back wheel, I have forgotten to take it off a couple of times but as I always back out of the garage I am not going very fast and soon realise before it has the chance to damage anything or get caught up.

They fit in yer pocket, and it stops people casually rolling it around. Since buying a reminder cable i have never had any issues.

I agree, Much easier than the chain to put on, and if you ask me more secure.

When you don't have a garage to secure the bike all the security you can get the better.

Yep - the disk lock is much more portable than my Almax chain. I'll often supplement it with a simple steel cable attaching the bike to something solid.

Obviously, if someone turns up with bolt croppers to cut the cable and a van to load the bike into I'm out of luck. But hopefully if they're professionals they will want something shiny and new, not a scruffy old VFR.

I fell off my 50 in the blockbuster car park when I was 16, doing about 15 mph, being a bit ambitious with the lean angles. Some fella getting in his car saw me and shouted 'you alright there mate' and started walking over. I gave him the quick thumbs up and could not get out of that car park fast enough. Didnt even realise I had cut my hand til I was at the traffic lights down the road. Incidentally thats the last time I ever rode without gloves.

It was not pretty and caused a lot of damage to an RGV250 , and the clothing of said person . The worst part of it was that it was a Limited Edition "Lucky Strike" paintjob and it was scratched to hell afterwards .
Similar reason why I don't have one. Saw a guy set off in Helmsley car park, bang - disk lock left on - over he went, knocking over about 10 bikes in the line of parked bikes. Just like dominoes falling over. The only reason more did not go down was the speed of the bike's owners sprinting over to save their beloved machines. He was nearly lynched by irate bikers...

No disc lock for me after seeing that.

Or if you have a proper bike, like me and Lenny, you put it under the seat, along with your alarm, chain, butties, bottle of pop, tool kit, clothes for the weekend, insurance docs, ironing board, iron and fridge...

It is unbelieveable....it had TWO bottles of juice in it at AR! Unreal! I can't even fit a bloody puck under mine without a bit of negotiation!
