I reckon the Edge is both over and under rated. As for effects- he is very good at getting very individual sounds on the guitar- both from the pedals/rack and from his playing too. I've got a lot of respect for his guitarring.
Personally, I'm most influenced by David Gilmour and Jimmy Page. But I love Satriani, Via, Petrucci and Eddie Van Halen. I often forget Hendrix but the documentary last week reminded me of how good he really was. Joe Walsh is often forgotten in the lists too- another of my favourites and a great songwriter too... Also Buck Dharma from Blue Oyster Cult- great riffs and lovely melodic lead stuff too. It's good to rock! |

Lyndsey buckingham- awesome. That acoustic version of Big Love, from The Dance is amazing. Totally blew me away when I heard it.

Cant believe nobody has mentioned Brian "Head" Welch, formerly of KoRn, or Munky for that matter. Both 7 string masters. My 2p worth!
Oh, and if you wanna see something a bit out of the ordinary, check this out. Not strictly guitar based, but theres a lot in there. The class bit is the drummer. * Make sure you watch it until the end * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IulqIuXIrYY |

I bow down and worship at the alter of Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen & Angus Young. Three totally opposite guitarists, but all fantastic.
Been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath recently (love 'Master Of Reality') & Tony Iommi is great. Very economical, but hugely effective. |
