My lads van insurance (business use) cost him £2200 for his first year, 3 years later it is £540.
However, in his first year 17years old, he was hit from behind and his van written off. Solicitors were involved from day 1 as he was self employed, no van no work. The 3rd parties insurance agreed to provide him with a hire van until the claim was settled. Easier said than done. They could not find a hire company willing to supply to a 17year old.

I've had 3 Evo Vs and 2 Evo VIs, I prefer that body shape over all the others. I din't like the white Evo V I had, it looked too chavvy, my favourite was the absolutely mint silver Evo V I had, that looked really classy. The others were red and blue, which I didn't think suited the body shape at all.

I sold my Maverick 2.7 TD 7 seater to Fizzwheel because they quoted me 700 quid for the renewal. I shopped around and that was the cheapest quote I could get... bye bye Maverick, hello Fiesta 1.25 Zetec. I now have a company Focus TDCi, so going to lose my NCB again if I don't reinsure something

Ill probably get blasted for this but you cant blaim the insurance companies.
When I got my first car in the 80's ![]() So if we assume that the average claim nowadays is in the couple of Thousands mark regardless of damage, I can see why insurance companies need to maintain profit margins and therefore pass on the costs. |

Yeah but £11,000 tpft for a £5,000 (that's what it cost new in 2004) car is extracting the wee a bit don't you think? And TBH I can see why some people take the risk of driving uninsured

It is not helping things that garages take the p*** when it comes to repair quotes.
My wife reversed our volvo s40 that we had about 5 years ago into a citreon ax of the same age as our volvo. Now she only hit the car at 5mph at the most but this put a dent, about the size of a golf ball in the drivers front wing, between the wheel arch and the drivers door. This was the only damage that was done to the car, the owner wasn't bothered about it but her boyfriend kicked up a fuss so we told them to go get a quote, which they did from a Citreon dealership about 2 miles up the road. To our surprise we recieved the quote from the dealer for just under 1200 pounds. Even though the damage was very small on one panel the dealer had quoted for the whole of the front to be resprayed, including the wing on the other side of the car, the tracking to be done and a complete set of new plastic wheel trims, even though my wife didn't touch any of the wheels. Also I think they quoted to respray the drivers door so they could get the colour to match properly. I said fine it'll go through the insurance, but the insurance company didn't keep me up to speed with how the claim panned out, although the owner of the car was seen driving around in a different car after that so I can only presume that it was written off. Bloody ridiculous really, dent magician or similar could probably have put things right for £100 or so. There was no damage whatsoever, not even a scratch on the Volvo!

Insurance just gets weirder and weirder.
Just been doing a few quotes for kitkats daughter to see what would be the best car to get etc. The car is most likely going to be an old 3 door, fiesta 1.1 as she's limited on budget. Value of car £400 Provisional licence, kitkat as named driver, no excess, fully comp it comes out at £770 same as above but TPFT comes out at £885 TPO is £950 ![]() ![]() Then put me on as named driver (9 points on my licence) instead of kitkat (licence clean as a whistle) still comes out the same ![]() ![]() but then when she passes her test it's going to go up by £400, this I can understand as she wont have someone sensible like me ![]() ![]()
