That "treasury spokesman" sounds like he's being selective again in choosing his words.

I'm sure half the reason fuel carries both "duty" and also "vat" is so that if the politicians are talking tax they can ignore the duty, and vice versa.

I think Lynw is probably the expert here, but isn't it that only road fuel carries duty, other fuel only has vat. Plus don't we actually pay vat on the duty itself?

..of course the scallies using red diesel on the road don't pay the duty, there again they probably pinch the diesel in the first place.

Basically i just want to kill / seriously hurt the ****s in the government who are rippin us off like this. I dont ride at the moment but my economical car (1600cc) cost £40 to fill up which lasts about a week! that is more than i get paid per day (im an appretice) Is that fair?

Im on the verge of ending it all soon, im so sick of this country and about 95% of the people who live here! No matter how hard i try to succed in life there is always a rule to stop me or something will happen to ruin my life.

Is it worth carrying on?

So I'm guessing you wont be driving off a cliff or going out in a large flash of flames from a Petrol bomb.

What you thinking? Razor Blade, Gas fumes or electrocution because you get taxed on them too you know. Only free way i can think of is drowning in the sea but even then if the coast guard comes out its costing someone.

Your right this country sucks. My dad used to say "Son, the best things in life are free!"

Just to cheer everyone up a bit,it's worth noting that every economic downturn of significant length and depth in the last century has been preceeded by a hike in oil prices.Job losses to follow?

Are those rates for use of your own car or a company car?

Grinch - you've probably alreayd looked at these but just in case, have you also considered:

Shopping around for insurance/reducing level cover (if you're happy doing that and not already using just 3pft cover)
Chain oiler (think you got one already, but can offer better mpg/less spare parts costs for chains and sprockets)
Self-servicing (or at least doing all the things the owners manual says you can and just getting garage to do the tricky bits)... and at least regularly checking air filter and tyre pressures
Getting supermarket brand petrol (if not too far out of the way)
Using an aftermarket screen or ducking down behind the screen/fairing that is there already to reduce drag

Anyone think of any more stuff to improve bike efficiency? Every little helps...

Chain oiler (think you got one already, but can offer better mpg/less spare parts costs for chains and sprockets) The GT is a shafty
Self-servicing (or at least doing all the things the owners manual says you can and just getting garage to do the tricky bits)... and at least regularly checking air filter and tyre pressures. Did the tyres monday, and oil is due next payday
Getting supermarket brand petrol (if not too far out of the way) I do.. asda, on the way home 90.9 ppl
Using an aftermarket screen or ducking down behind the screen/fairing that is there already to reduce drag I've taken the huge screen of as it made the handling a tad wobbly, planing on getting a little one

Anyone think of any more stuff to improve bike efficiency? Every little helps...
