Default Car repair under warranty

The Central Locking UCH (ECU) went on the car on Tuesday night so I took it to the dealer as it is under an extended warranty. First of all the warranty company said it wasn't covered but I had a book at home which clearly stated I was so they've relented and said they would pay for the part/labour but wouldn't pay for the diagnostic process which is £60.

Is this normal? I would have thought they should pay for the diagnosis of the problem if they are going to pay for the repair?

I'm suprised you even got them to cover it, extended warranties arnt worth anything generally.

My Laguna Dci, chewed all the teeth off the flywheel and starter motor, I rang the extended warranty company who told me to take it to one of their recognised garages.

The work to just remove the gearbox etc cost around £300, however the warranty only covered the first £275 of any claim.......they said the flywheel being chewed was normal wear and tear anyway.

In your case, they pay to fix the problem.

Diagnosing the problem isnt classed as fixing the problem unfortunately.

£60 would have easily covered the cost of the part required, robbing gits are just looking to recover some cost.

Those lagunas are plagued with reliability problems. Shame really as I think they're quite nice otherwise. The electronic locking gone wrong yet? (it will)

I would say it is normal in the sense that (in my experience) dealers will try anything to wiggle out of doing warranty work. I have heard plenty of (cr*p) excuses.

If you are sure the part is covered stick to your guns...

Good luck!

I had an argument with them and they are paying for the part/labour but not the diagnostic bit of it. I've saved myself £310 by arguing the toss as it clearly stated in the T&C that the locking ecu was covered.

I've spoken to a few people and theyve said it's fairly normal to have to pay for the diagnostic labour!

Everything went wrong with it, it was just about to blow a turbo (another common £2000 problem). I fixed the flywheel and got rid of it as soon as I could. The guy even bought it despite seeing the warning light.

I sold it and took a company car instead lol......the proceeds paid for my bike test and new SV

They will charge an hours labour for the diagnostic check, although it doesn't take that long. The job is booked at an hour.

Before having any work undertaken a dealer should advise you if there will be a charge for investigatory work. If something is found, some warranties may then cover the initial investigation.

By the way, I work for Ford Retail, one of the largest Ford dealerships in England. I have the ability to save my friends and family money on new Fords. If you're after one, PM me

Unfortunately the part comes blank and has to be programmed using the renault software. It is matched to the main ECU and therefore cannot be used on another car (or so I'm told!)
