Default Bike Tax figures

Don't know if it has been posted before but:
http://news.uk.msn.com/Article.aspx?...mentid=7312077

seems almost 40% of bikers don't pay their road tax?? This is really bad, as it means an almost certain price hike for the rest of us.

My theory is it is because of all the scroats with no insurance/MOT etc. Why bother with tax.

or more likely, pure ********, and generating an excuse to stop/harass bikers.

Perhaps either most of the 40% not taxed are off the road (SORN) or the other point is they're not taxed because they're not insured/MOT'd. You can't get tax without both. So tax may be cheap, but if the bike didn't pass the MOT or the insurance isn't worth the cost of the insurance, they take the chance.
