Default Wd40

ok i want to rant and rave about WD40 sad i know but i just cant get my head around it.

as i see it WD40 is a degreaser/cleaner and is used to help penetrate rust but how can some like this be used as a lubricant if it degrease's.

am i missing something or have the makers of WD40 developed a super lubricant that is better than all the other types of grease out there?

maybe its the lack of sleep but i hate the stuff

all the best

It does degrease, but it leaves a film of WD40 in its place...which can be lubricant. You can't replace grease with it, as I think it will dry up too quickly and is probably too thin.

It is a water dispersant. it does not degrease as well as a purpose designed degreaser. It does not penetrate as well as a penetrating oil, it does not lubricate. It is the most misused product on the market.

I use it to give my tools a spray over in the cold garage before I close the tool box drawers. and spray over damp HT leads

I keep a tin handy for when a mate complains about a poor starting bike after it has been left in the hedge for half a year , a whiff of it when firing up the bike can work wonders ........ generally I wouldn`t even use it on my Mountain Bike .

Have to agree with Timwilky there. The WD in the title actualy stands for Water Dispersant. I use it more to clean with than anything (great on engines) and spray on electricsto keep the damp out.
Again as Tim says, good for cleaning off your tools aswell.
