Default What sort of multimeter do I need? - charging fault.

Numpty Q,

Which tyoe of multimeter do i purchase, been looking through fleebay, and they seem to range from £15-£70. Only needed for basic diy tyoe stuff.

Get the cheapest then...try Maplins also, they sometimes have special offer clearance or B-grade (returned/refurbished) goods.

If you get one that measures 0-20V you'll be able to do 95% of electrical work on the bike using just that function

A basic multimeter will measure voltage, current and resistance, possibly continuity as well, which will cover you for pretty much anything you could need to do on the bike

B+Q sell a pocket digital multimeter for about £12 - I picked one up at the weekend and was perfect for testing+fixing+retesting 2 electrical faults on my housemate's bike.

bought myself a multi-metre a while back, the best money can buy. easy job, or so i thought. locate faulty censor and replace it.
couldn't make head nor tail of it.

Just remember, your bike is DC, your house is AC when it comes to voltage.
