Stubby - Straight through

Hi all, This is mostly aimed at yorkie chris because i think it was him who had done this ages ago but any help is as always welcome!!!
I have a homemade stubby on my bike atm but it has a perforated tube on the inside still, what type of material would i need to buy a solid pipe in to make it straight through? Is there anywhere in particular I should buy this from?
Another thing, is there any certain grade of exhaust wadding i should use as my bike tends to eat packing!! i know its probably not the best balanced regarding carbs and running quality and it spits flames and pops etc but surely it cant b bad enough to eat through packing in a few months?

you can buy exhaust packing at most motorcycle shops, if you replace the perforate tube with a solid one you will indeed be straight through but for all intents and purpose yours is straight through i.e nothing restricting the flow of gas if you do put a straight tube in there will be no need for exhaust packing as the gas cant get to it and don't forget if you put a straight pipe through you will lose back pressure in your exhaust which can actually loose bhp.if you want to try it just bodge up a pipe to where your can would normally go bet you , you like how it sound's with your stubby can rather than straight through.it's your choice though enjoy which ever route you go.

Aaaright! I thought havin a straighthru with a packed can stopped it soundin so tinny and rattly! Is ther any type of metal pipe in particular I should use for cost and heat resistant purposes?

I tried the straight-through pipe though, it was mentally loud and sounded crap. Would have been nice to use occasionally though.
Next system I having is underseat... and that will be well silenced, but with an anti-baffle you can fit to make it a straight through.

You want some stainless pipe, cheap grade like 409 or something if you still want to do it.

I might take the bike for a spin without the can and c wot it's like if it doesn't really make a difference then, prob won't bother, will just get some really good packing and stuff the life outa the can! It sounded epic when I first made it, quiet and rumbly but such an unbelievable growl off it when u twisted ur wrist!

stubbie does loose you power had one on my road sv for a while and was 66 on the dyno. fitted normal lenth can for the mot and had it dynoed again and was 68. was same dyno. but it had 6 more in the midrange with the long can.

Sounds about right, was a lot of fun with the micron pipes and shorty can. More fun than the M4!

I was present when YC did the solid tube test.

It was sh!te.
I have straight throughs on both my SVs. One is a stubbied ART race can, thats been on the bike for 8 years and packing is errrrrr 'thin' if any at all one is a stubbied Scorpion with the perforated tube in my loft.

As for stubbies losing power. Swallocks. The one with the Scorpion hasn't been dyno'd and runs stock filter and a mahhhhooosive long hi level pipe, defo no loss of power, even if the gearing is not standard.
The other has been dyno'd, runs drilled out jets and a butchered air filter. It also sounds a meaty mother, gets the chavs shouting 'ere giz a go mister' when I'm off to work at night
And officially louder than YCs M4 can, as video'd by Armarko at the GM Just had to slip that in YC, just to irritate mwahahahahahahha

That's the baffle, your can still has the perf tube down the middle.


I've also tried stubby can without the perf tube, that sounds naff and hollow. The stubby with perf tube but no packing was probably the best sounding but wasn't too good for power. Didn't seem to affect flat out at all though, just midrange.
