Spark plug socket - Pointy?

I have the plugs ... and the 3/8 non-torque and torque wrenches (for loosening and tightening). Now just need the 10(16)mm socket ...

Or will I need a deeper one?

I don't want to go through the hassle of getting the bike all prepped and then realise my socket isn't long enough! Or is too long and won't fit, or the wrench won't fit into the space inside the bike, etc, etc ... !!

EDIT: And how tight should the plugs be? (In modern English please, not in imperial!!) I think I read somewhere that it should be 11Nm.

Use the socket in the tool kit for the plugs.

11 Nm sounds right I just did a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn when I changed mine recently.

i would say to use the one that came with it, due to the length of the socket and the difficulty of getting to the plugs, unless you're taking the tank and other bits off

It's a bit awkward, you need a short extension. Normal 16 spark plug socket is ok.

I don't use torque on spark plugs. NGK tell you to put them in then 1/2 a turn... and they make the sealing washer you're sealing...

I don't have a toolkit for the plugs! this is news to me! Should there be a toolkit with the bike? I haven't got one of those either! Never have - didn't have one when I bought it.

I'll get a standard 3/8 16 socket and have a go ...

You haven't got a toolkit or you haven't found it ?

It sits in the little compartment on the left hand side of the bike just about where the back of your knee is when you sit on it. Little plastic cover secured with a plastic button thingummyjig.

Nope, no toolkit. Now that you mention it and I've had a look, there's a space with a rubber bit dangling down, but no toolkit. Never has been AFAIK. I honestly didn't know that bikes were supposed to come with toolkits, I've only ever had two bikes - a 125 on L-plates and then the SV - both were second hand and neither had a toolkit! I've just made up my own little toolkit and put it with the bike, adding tools as and when needed.

Probably for the best, the plug spanner is about the only thing of use in there anyway.

For my sins, I've gone and bought one from Halfords - has a universal joint and only cost £6.

Job done! Simple. Only took 30 mins, it was easier to get at the plugs than I thought! I ended up taking the rad off completely though and dropping it down in front of the cylinder - couldn't get enough room just undoing the bottom bolt and swinging it up.
