Of course you can - more the merrier... all details in the OP. As it's a bank holiday weekend I suggest calling and getting booked in sooner rather than later.

I need to check the diary, I think this weekend may clash with me needing to look after the dog, but I might be able to work around it...
bring him.......... you have the luggage for it

see - they have a rally field.. so it shouldnt be a problem.. if they expect and accommodate groups..
we aint a big group anyway.. but they need more communication I guess.
i fink we is on the rally feild
Seems to be a bit of confusion at the campsite. Fizz and Quiff had trouble with a lady called Sue (owners wife I presume), but when I called I spoke to a gent (Andy I think) and everything was fine. I didn't fill out any online forms, just called and paid. He said if there's a few of us coming down he'll put us in the rally field.
I'll call and discuss with them.
Will update OP if there's anything inparticular we need to quote when booking.

Fizz had trouble with a lady called Sue
I wouldnt call it trouble, she was just a bit anxious and was trying to suss out how big a group we would likely to be. She was a pains to point out that its a family site and that if we made to much noise or disturbed her other guests then we'd get asked / told to leave. I dont have a problem with that its pretty standard for a campsite to have those rules in place.
When I spoke to her yesterday to book my pitch she was polite and courteous with me and took my desposit no trouble.
I think the trick is to do what I did, Ring and ask to book a pitch for bank holiday weekend, then she'll say "Is that in the Rally field" at which point I said "Yes thats fine" she asked what vehicles I was bringing, I said a car and a motorbike and she replied "Thats fine"
Quiff Wichard
05-08-09, 11:16 AM
it looks a good site - lovely ..and 3 mins walk to town.. ideal..
but because it is ideal I expect Sue is overly defensive / protective. as a load of perceived hairy bikers could lose her a lot of repeat business..
its her prerogative.. her livelyhood (sp) just her attitude when I rang..
hope it gets sorted cos it looks lovely.. and if it does , and we go, then I hope no one lets Rich down and causes excess noise and proves Sues point.
we will see
Quiff - sorry about that mate.
I think the better plan is to call if others have a similar experience. I don't want to stir this up unnecessarily. I suspect as you've said, she's just being over protective and may have had trouble in the past.
Give it as long as you see fit and then call to firm up your booking.
If other's have a problem booking, then I'll give them a call.
All - I think it's a far suggestion that you call to book and don't worry about the online form.
i have not booked yet, but just an idea, how about 1 person bokking for all of us, that way she might not get so streesed?
I thought about that, but they may view it as a large group and that might cause issues. I think it's beeter if we book individually - ask for a pitch and/or rally field availability.
Wideboy
05-08-09, 11:54 AM
are we all asking for rally field then?
Quiff Wichard
05-08-09, 12:02 PM
sorry but i think when we call she will be on her high horse and refuse us ...or call and speak to the man.. he seems more reasonable.
we all want peace and quiet , a beer and camp.. why do they think we going to rev bikes and sacrifice a virgin at midnight .
we are about 10 folk.. they hold rallies for gods sake
just get that feeling ..
really think someone needs call her and explain.. as she will panic when 5 or 6 start phoning..
wouldnt want to lose the site as its lovely.
why do they think we going to rev bikes and sacrifice a virgin at midnight .
does she know bears not coming?:p
im a bit put off phoning now, cos i dont want to speak to her, if its as bad as quiff says
fizzwheel
05-08-09, 12:16 PM
Personally I think block booking is going to put her off even more.
Try the approach that I took. Ask to book a pitch for bank holiday weekend, and dont mention anything else.
She'll then say "Is that in the rally field" and then you can just say yes thats fine thank you and then take it from there.
I suspect the main campsite might be full and thats why shes putting us in the rally field...
If somebody else tries it and has a similar reponse to Quiff then let RichT now so he can phone the campsite and have a chat with Andy as opposed to Sue...
the only thing i was thinking with group booking was say limit it to sy 15? and tell her that
as every call she get, she may be thinking "how many more are coming" and worry it may turn into a hells angels/combat 18 event
has anyone been to see her to show we are normal-ish?
just an idea, but this is getting messy again
keep this thread for chat, questions etc
then the other thread (wont rain title) just for names and if you have paid, but the title of the other thread needs editing.

Ok Pingus booked - with difficulty
Spoke to Lady - She was very concearned BUT I sounded a nice chap.....
As FIZZ stated "she was just a bit anxious and was trying to suss out how big a group we would likely to be. She was a pains to point out that its a family site and that if we made to much noise or disturbed her other guests then we'd get asked / told to leave. I dont have a problem with that its pretty standard for a campsite to have those rules in place."
I confirmed to her that we are 16 people, 5 women and 11 bikes approx.
We would be on our best behaviour.
Revving bikes etc and any complaints and WE WILL BE KICKED OFF SITE.
Spoke to her for about 10 minutes trying to calm her fears so please be nice when you ring and lets not mess this up.
i phoned this afternoon, and had a nice chat with her, but she did not take my booking
rich was going to phone to explain, but pingu, i take it you have sorted it?
i know a *few of us* got in a mess and played up at the AR, but relise we cant/wont be doing it on this weekend
*mostly widepants

I think you should be safe to call.
Best to explain that you are part of the group - told her we are a forum and the numbers that we had confirmed - she seemed happy as I seemed sensible and took pains to explain we would not be revving etc and fully understood she had a business to run.
I have only just booked so now may be a good time.
fizzwheel
05-08-09, 06:05 PM
I dont think anybodies messed it up, its just a case of crossed wires, which is easy to do on the phone...
I believe RichT is going to give the campsite owner a ring and sort it out.

I did the same when I spoke to her in the flesh and when I phoned I mentioned nothing about a group and had no bother, but then she never asked me if I was part of a group either.
Pingu65
05-08-09, 06:22 PM
I think because of the number of calls and all bikes she is putting the numbers together - 4 phone calls = 100 bikers
Thats why I ended up giving approx numbers so she knew how big the group would be.
Hope we all get in - RichT work your magic
i will wait to hear off rich before phoning then,

yeah so pi$$ off you 2
Ok All - apologies for the slight delay in getting back to you.
I spoke to Roger at the campsite who explained they have a person there who tends to get the wrong end of the stick and said that we should have no problems booking.
I said we're a group, but didn't give an exact number and discussed the situation.
He's more than happy for us to stay and simply stressed that we abide by the campsite rules.
I made assurances that we would not be any trouble what-so-ever and that if they felt they had to ask one of us to leave then that would apply to the group.
Their main concern is noise - to which I offered a curfew on starting bikes after dark. He wasn't too bothered with this, just asked we be considerate to their other guests. I think it'd be the decent thing to do however.
I suggested he use my name as a reference - again he wasn't too bothered about it. (Richard Thoms)
Please just be polite when calling and if speaking with Sue, please assure her as best you can.
Hovis and Quiff - I said that we had two guys "denied" yesterday. He apologised and said you're more than welcome - just crossed wires.
Hope that clears thing's up. If we have any more issues I'll call and speak with Roger again.

mandy called this morning- spoke to the bloke..
all booked in no problem..
maybe is sue answers hang up..141 first lol
EDIT- I POSTED THIS BEFORE READIING RICH POST.. SO HIS SUPERCEDES MINE.. GOOD WORK SIR.!
Hahaha - nice work.
Hovis - No limit on numbers other than first come first serve with the site. Seems like good old Rog is answering the dog today, so might be a good idea to call now.
Don't forget to update T'OTHER (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=133466&page=7) thread as well.
One more thing - Roger said the rally field is unmarked and get's quite busy. He said that if we all want to be together we should try to arrive at the same time. Logistically that'll be quite difficult, so I suggest the first few that arrive space thing's out a touch so that when other's get there there's space.

I might see if there's any chance of the friday off work so i could get there early, that way i can set up camp with my tent and at least lay out the tents i'll be carrying for others so some space is saved.

Lovely overall location.
The A39 is a bit of a PIA for those coming that way, lot's of 40s and double whites but once past Minehead you'll love the area.
Although many of the roads are not A roads they are still most suitable for sports bikes and even the small ones tend to have a decent surface on the moor, although twisty-turny in non-smooth ways  but even so worth riding just to take in the views and scenery.
Make sure you pop down to Porlock Weir for 10 mins. Will be busy that weekend but try and ignore the car park and you can imagine being transported back to the time of sailboats and Smugglers. Very atmospheric when quiet (ie. winter!)
A loop taking in Quantocks* and Exmoor is nice (*although roads very narrow and a bit less sports bike friendly) and there is a great road connecting them via the Brendon Hills, even I enjoyed going fast on that one
Not around otherwise would pop by as down that way lots of weekends.
Have fun.
Thanks for the info Rabbit... Shame you can't make it.

Beware, there is fuel at Minehead and at Barbrook near you (there may be a 'rustic style' place in Porlock) but you can, believe it or not, get caught short on the coast side of Exmoor at non-peak times. Apparently there is a station at Wheddon Cross but I can't picture where it is. Next nearest fuel is in South Wales
No probs south of moor and Ilfracombe way obviously, so there or Minehead really.
Oh, and it goes without saying, don't go anywhere after dark. And if you see the man from Porlock, avoid him, look what he did for Coleridge.

I shall book tomorrow... Maybe!
Did the route again today, was awesome as ever. A car infront of me going up Porlock Hill missed a gear and burnt out its clutch, I had a little chuckle in my helmet needless to say she wasn't too happy. It was a little busier over the top down to Lynton/Lynmouth but nothing spectacular. On the A377 though I must have overtaken a hand full of cars, and I managed to lose a few power rangers in between Crediton and Tiverton I was going to stop and help them push around the bends.
A while back Gid recommended using Watersmeet Lane from Lynton/Lynmouth, I tried it today it was a road to be ridden carefully, some of it only had room for one car, a huge drop to the left and a sheer cliff face to the right. Lots of tight bends, some doubling back on themselves. The bike did sound lovely though against the cliff, we can use this on the weekend if your all up for it. As long as you take it steady though, I was caught out a few times.
Theres a few bends on the route that could catch people out i'll try to show you the lines best I can, perhaps i'll do what I did when I was with me dad and put my hand up when theres a sharp one coming up.
Anyway if the weathers as good as this weekend it's going to be brill, really looking forward to this now 8-)
