I am still thinking that the Soho Massive could do this - only current issue seems to be where to stay...

After all we have some great roads (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0114oyUdQU)...

You are obviously not viewing the video correctly.

This are not cars on the road, they are an infinitely shifting set of chicanes, a veritable array of twisties, and even if you were to do up and down that bit of road all day it would never be the same twice.

See my second BidVid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9SafSUBzjc) for that bit of road in the other direction and some South London Highlights.

Watch it twice - once to get a real sense of awe over our wonderful roads, then again, as a re-run of the Hazard Awareness test :)

me and Dizzy are working our ball locks off to make ar11 a winner for next year.
What do people think of some entertainment as an icebreaker, comedian vs music act what do you guys think of entertainment for a couple of hours.

Honestly.....no need to at all. I think every AR has shown that entertainment really isn't needed to break ice etc. Everyone just gets on with it and has a laugh. It would be a shame if something was booked and everyone just wanted to catch up and chill, meaning the crowd watching would be small etc etc.

Just my 2penneth worth.

The last thing I want to do is put down anyone's efforts organising an AR, BUT - I have to say that the idea of organised entertainment for me is a no-no.

Sally & I disucussed it for AR09 but in the end we decided that it is damn near impossible to do something that will be 'inclusive' for all who attend.

As YC said in the PM AR thread - it's us Org-ans who provide the entertainment for each other at an AR - anything else would just alter the dynamic of the event and turn it into just another 'biker rally'.

Sorry but that is my honest opinion :(

yeh that's what i initailly thought but I'm in that trade and know some good local acts that would put an edge and not take anything away from our meet.

In my opinion anything along the lines of organised entertainment would change the whole feel of the AR. Nw that change may be welcomed by some but I wouldn't like it. As Supervox said, we considered and rejected the idea, and I believe the original AR09 plan considered it but the idea didn't go down with many poeple.

I think the org people are their own entertainment.

Just need to decide if we get a babysitter for the wee one or a sidecar :)

MrMessy

Just like to throw this into the pot.
Why not have a regional get together? The Pennine Section is a fairly active group and could hold a meeting in its own right and would probably pull in people who do not want to travel to the other end of the country.
Also Berlin suggested a mini get together up at East Fortune, this could be organised at most race meetings, you have ample camping space, toilets, showers and some form of catering unit plus the benefit of bike racing to watch.

dizzyblonde
18-08-10, 07:46 AM
Well SV and Messie, who would prefer not to have entertainment, this is why these questions get asked, and its better we have negative feedback than none at all.

Messie, I could imagine a certain member with a comedy horse would be extrememly entertaining if he had a bunch of fiddlers to dance to :-)

MrMessy, we in the Pennine Massive do organise local get togethers, not as many this year, as folk have been busy. The last major one was the Hardy Bikers which I attended, but there has been Catherine wheel rides, Carlsberg ones, Squires meets every Wednesday.
I'm sure there will be more over the year.
As you say Berlin organises race meets, for those whose cuppa it appeals to.

The AR is held every year as its a National Org event to bring all our members together.

MrMessy
18-08-10, 07:53 AM
High Dizzy,
I know the Pennine Section have a lot of rides out etc just suggesting that there probably would be enough interest for a camping get together over and above an AR meet.

Yeah I know.
But people never never put a local meet over an AR meet:p
We have had camping get togethers, just not too many, the Hardy Bikers one was in a hostel...but then camping in Winters a bit cold:smt045

Many other sections have camping/bunkhouse/hostel rideouts and get togethers, and they extend the invite to other regions too.

Regarding putting on some form of entertainment...I would say do so at your own pergyl...lol :-)

Any form of entertainment will need to be paid for. You'll have some orgers happy to pay the extra, but some not happy as they won't want to use/watch it. How would you go about making it fair for all?

These are things that Hovis and I discussed as he really wanted a bouncy castle or dodgems cars, but in reality, they wouldn't have got used that much, they would have been expensive, would have caused grief over some loving the idea and some hating it and it would just not be fair to expect people that didn't want it to help pay for it AND would not be fair for me and Hovis to have to be out of pocket either.

SV650.org Annual Rideouts are non-profit making events, so no money should be taken that is not going directly towards the weekends enjoyment, hence this year just dropping the price to what the Hotel charged...easy. A few nice donations covered my unexpected

cost and the spare £6.12 went to the catering van.

I would say that it's totally up to the organisers. If you want to propose some form of entertainment, then go for it, none of us can censor the desire of others, but while I had no stress or headaches this year, it was mainly due to the fact that I didn't give myself any. If you are going to organise more than the usual camping, be ready for a massive amount of extra work, a gazillion PM's and posts to respond to and you have to find a way to price it fairly.

You can't please all the people all the time, so don't stress about that, but you do have to take into consideration the concerns of everyone.

Good luck all....I am just looking forward to it wherever it's going to be :-)

[Everyone gasps]
Jewish Official: You're only making it worse for yourself!
Matthias: Making it worse? How can it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!
Jewish Official: I'm warning you! If you say "Jehovah" one more time (gets hit with rock) RIGHT! Who did that? Come on, who did it?
Stoners: She did! She did! (suddenly speaking as men) He! He did! He!
Jewish Official: Was it you?
Stoner: Yes.
Jewish Official: Right...
Stoner: Well you did say "Jehovah. "
[Crowd throws rocks at the stoner]
Jewish Official: STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT RIGHT NOW! STOP IT! All right, no one is to stone _anyone_ until I blow this whistle. Even... and I want to make this absolutely clear... even if they do say, "Jehovah. "

I know it's the south which some people aren't too keen on, but what about East Sussex/Kent?

Easy to get to with motorways/dual carriageways a plenty!

Literally hundreds of campsite/b&b for the poshers .orgers

Fantastic biking roads from quick dual carriage-way blasts to proper country back-roads in a few miles

Best of all the Sea and Beaches!!!

East Sussex/Kent?

Dislike.

Had the AR in Essex last year. South enough down that end of the country for me.

Mate if you're willing to step up to the plate and organise it, then put forward a proposal.

I went to look at the other place today. I hadn't had a reply to my email, and as I was on the way back from Manchester I called in - it's at Wem, which is a large village/small town in north Shropshire. It's ideal... I didn't have my camera with, going to try to get some pics tomoz, but nice campsite - we'd have our own large field, hot food reasonably priced - typically £5 - £6 a meal but steak was £8, large bar, and another bar, for tinnies the Co-Op in Wem is about a mile away although the site shop is an offie as well, heated swim pool, crazy golf, bikes can park on the field, gennies allowed (Kwak please take note) and some pitches could have mains hook-up. He quoted me £7/night. And above all, friendly owner who welcomes bikes:p

I like it - a lot. Add mountains and sea...

Good, eh:cool:

I think east sussex would be fantastic..if ar is a bit much, maybe do a mini one like some of the other regional TT type events.

If you do stick my name down please.

Sounds good Ed.....but try and get a 'group reduction' on the camping price. Seven quid a night might be a bit steep for those sharing tents per night.
Just a suggestion mind ;-)

What else in other forms of accomodation does it have?

£7 a night? the AR10 wasnt much different to that i think and that was per person also.
Id be ok with that tbh, its not a lot really.

Sorry I live with someone who always likes to haggle, and I'm a Yorkie Puddin ;-)

After all, if theres loads a folk turning up, always better to get a good deal, say £6.
Camping at my proposed site is a fiver... there was a tent charge waivered because of the large group.
Just trying to help thats all, sounds a good site too.

Is there a link so we can see?

How do folks we're back and having paid 19 euros for last nights camping can't see any problem with the prices mentioned or any of the suggested sites, allthough i am leaning towards the london one, having done the blackwall tunnel today and the m25 filtering :D

Here ya go, Dizz:

For non-campers they have some mobile homes on site for hire, I need to talk to them about that, or else there is B&B in Wem - the village starts about half a mile down the road.

The bar is right next door to the field we'd have:cool: Plenty big enough for everyone too, so if it rained we'd all get in. Bar has a pool table and one of they ice hockey table things, and a fruit machine, plus a stage if anyone wanted karaoke:smt120 The only downside is we wouldn't have exclusive use of it. There are plenty pubs in Wem - in fact, for the size population, the pub /person ratio is pretty close to Stourbridge:D Kwak will know what I mean:D Or else we could have a big gazebo/marquee thingy as a focal point. Camp fires not allowed, understandable I spose. BBQs OK as long as above ground, I forgot to ask if they have a firepit we can use. Gennies OK as long as not noisy, they like them turned off by midnight if anyone can hear, but we'd be far enough away so that a quiet machine would be OK.

The place works for a big Hardly Movingson rally so I'm sure it would work for us.

Would that be the same as one o them Hardly Drievable ones;)

Breakfast takeaways always a good one Ed advertised on the website, I like that idea, thats been a headache in the past, trying to get sites to cater for mornings.

Yes they do a good fry up, was on the menu, £4.50 from memory but I'll get up there tomoz and sample the fare:D

As re ride, well there are so many great routes from there that would accommodate 100+ bikes, the hard part is not deciding what to put in, but what to leave out.

@ Andrew - (this of course assumes that the org votes for Shroppie) - just think if they held it same weekend:smt120
