for those interested, really nice biker friendly campsite not too far from the coast which would be ideal - Horam Park, Horam, East Sussex quite pricey but really good facilities and im sure we could negatiate heavily with the amount of likely attendees! Just out of interest and as a ball park figure for next year to start the negotiating process, anyone know how many pitches were used at AR10?
Not back in Sussex til tuesday but will try and get over that way and have a chat with the family that run the place, see if its a goer!
I'm a local resident of the Borders area, and also a local officer of the law too. I know the roads well, and I'm certain you'd all like the choice of route I'd take!
Bri, I'd be up for doing research, route researching etc for this if you ever want to meet up. MBK has been in touch, and cadjoled me into action!

allthough i am leaning towards the london one, having done the blackwall tunnel today and the m25 filtering :D
Thank you for your support, did you see my videos of the roads you missed by not cutting through the center?
Glad you enjoyed it - yes the roads MAY be fairly boring in themselves, but the traffic adds a certain something :)
Oh you didn't overtake in the Blackwall (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=152849&highlight=blackwall) did you? ;p

OK, sorry for not reading the whole thread, I've been on holiday for a week and we've got 31 pages, I gave up at page 17
My two penneth
Scotland - would definately dilute the GM, few people would travel to Scotland or get a pass from the family for two weekend rideouts in the same year, and you see many of the same people on the GM and the AR. The AR would probably be the one they chose out of the two and the GM would die a death.
If you amagamated it then fine, but you are essentially ditching the GM for a year and turning it into the AR. I think you would get breakaway groups who would go off and do their own smaller rideouts, I for one wouldn't join a 100 bike rideout round Scotland on a set route, if I've ridden 7 hours to get up there, I'd go off and do MY favorite roads with no congestion. The same goes for the GM, if I didn't like the route, I'd ride my own, it's not often I get the opportunity so I want to ride the best roads.
Ireland/IOM/Anywhere requiring a ferry - It's too expensive for many, we have a lot of young riders and many who got into bikes because they are on a budget and it's cheaper than running a car. Ferry availability in August can be difficult for one bike, never mind 100+. I hear cries of "book in advance", but not everyone can book in advance as they can't guarantee they will be able to go, or in case circumstances force them to drop out and they loose their money.
Northumberland - Like it a lot.
Derbyshire - Think one massive 50MPH LIMIT!!
Lake District/Yorkshire Dales - Think 100 bike funeral procession at 30mph behind a caravan
Anywhere else in the country that is not a tourist trap - Possible
I dont think we need to worry about some small roads, ie: Hartside pass etc. On the AR10 we took 100 bikes up some single track roads with hairpin bends, without any problem, and we do smaller roads than Hartside on the GM with 50 bikes, 100 just takes twice as long to get through for someone watching from a fixed point, but for each individual rider, it makes absolutely no difference.
As said we can argue about locations, but we need a couple of offers from people, nothing organised, no route, just "OK guys, I live in XXXX, I phoned this campsite <insert linky here> and they agreed in principal, there's some good roads round here, and I'll organise it", then stick each offer to a vote.
Are we in danger of making this too democratic? Too many people get an input and decisions take ages. Maybe the site administrators need to dictate the process by which the next AR organiser and venue will be chosen, for instance something like: proposals from orgers into a central point, top 5 shortlisted by them, then top 5 put to an org vote

Lake District/Yorkshire Dales - Think 100 bike funeral procession at 30mph behind a caravan
Dunno where you've ridden in the Yorkie Dales Ralph, but those of us that live in this neck of the woods know of many, many roads that keep us amused where you never get bothered by cars, let alone a car pulling a shed.
BUT you then run the risk of our roads being too technical for some(or folk arguing ot could be), too narrow, too twisty, a little too much fun, too open, too near a cliff, too fast etc etc especially parading 100 bikes around them. Gah, you can't please everyone!
Granted, if you wanna stick to the A65 and never stray off the path, then thats all you find(caravans that is)!
You could argue this about any area you go to, in summer, all places are plagued by caravans somewhere, which is why people with local knowledge take the time to recce out routes suitable for all.
Whoever gets the task of running the AR has the headache of 100+ bikes of all different shapes and sizes, and riders of all abilities to think about when choosing a route.
I've said before and I'll say again, I don't bother with the rideout these days at an AR, as I can't be ar$ed putting up with them all (suppose I better make an effort if it ends up here then:rolleyes:) Haven't ridden the rideout since AR07, when there was only 40 ish, similar numbers to the GM.
There are a few of us that have already taken time to recce a campsite and offer it forward, or are in the process of doing so, from Northumberland(BriW), the Lakes(DavePreston), Yorkshire Dales(myself), Shropshire/N.Wales(Ed) and I believe MBK is looking into the Borders, although shes been a little quiet.
Two of us have already put up threads in our local area to say, hey, look what I've found, I want to share it. I've got a full thread with pics showing everyone what I found, Eds put up a link for what he found last night in this thread...and I'm sure over the coming weeks the others taking a little time will do the same.

Northumberland. The roads are amazing. The people are lovely. My parents have a place in beadnell near seahouses so suits me fine.
Unfortunately the garden isn't big enough for 300 bikers lol.
Serious note. It really is my favourite part of England, and I am a yorkshireman!

MBK currently has other things OTHER than the forum to pre-occupy her, ie work, unfortunately.
Think me, Bri W, Jamesmio and Nelson are gonna try and do a joint Northumbria/Scottish Borders effort.

Nice one Ed.
But I'll raise you the 24 miles of the B6318 from Greenhead to Walwick. Its an old Roman road that runs parallel to Hadrian's Wall - pics to follow later today.

Mostly the main roads through the Dales, friend of mine lived in Hawes for a while. Maybe not as many caravans as the Lake District, but sat in plenty of queues of 40mph tourist traffic on various visits.

Ahh well, there lies your problem, you stuck to the main roads, they're not the best we have to offer! What a mean mate if he lived in Hawes and put you through that:smt120

They don't live there anymore, and most of the time it was in the car anyway, though still frustrating.
Most times I've ridden the Dales by bike it's been from South to North on the way to Scotland, starting in Colne, via Settle and ending in Kirby Stephen, that's a nice route.

well that would be then. :(
So you'll have never been up the likes of Kettlewell, or the Tan Hill pub, or Burnsall, Barden Scale....eee could go on forever with nice places to go. Its a big old place, which is nice to explore.

Depends what you want, some of best roads if you want to go mentally fast and scrape things around the bends can be a bit touristy, but not all.
Some of back roads are more fun... these it takes skill to carry speed on, not just liter bike and romper suit :)
