Just a quick response, would rather say thanks individually but I can't type much on this phone at the moment so this'll have to do!

Cheers for the comments and well wishes everyone, and to Jen for the random updates... half of which are new to me as well as I don't remember a great deal of the past however many days :P

And for the get well soon cards from those of you, means a lot :)

I've no recollection of the crash but would love to know how/why and any details. Likely my fault but right now I've no idea even what happened and no memory of anything after lunch in the Cat and Fiddle then waking up many days later being told I have metal holding one arm together and the other was dislocated and a tiny shoulder bone fractured. Also seem to recall being told I broke pelvic bone and whatever other damage done.

Ach well what's done is done, onwards with the boredom of recovery! Cheers again all, comments mean alot more than just this silly response may show so truly thank you for them, including any ****-taking ones ;)

If you want to know it looked like it may have been a bit of panic/seggonitis We'd come off the cat & fiddle and had started hitting single laners, stopped for a little photo thingy then tommy h left us and we were back on our way, I got dumped near the front again somehow which didn't suit as I was bimbling, you appeared large in my mirror so I motioned you past, you came round me then we were going up hill and then I just saw your brake lights through the next corner and found you. It looked like the road was naturally weaving left but with it being over a crest when you got round the previously blind point of the corner it could have been unclear which way it was going for a moment, you may have just gone for the brakes or wanted to shed some speed and either it was in vain or probably more likely you hit too much brake. There were what looked to be peg marks from a bit after the white line across the 'wrong'side of the road and to the verge (they looked reasonably fresh...but that post had took a whack before so no telling)

Don't read any of that critically, it happens to the best of us :). And that's assuming I'm correct, you could have hit or seen some gravel or another hazard that spooked you or something.

Anyway mate, focus on getting your ass out that hospital!
Nice work so far:cheers:

Bugger off Tommy, valid excuse to say I don't know what you're going on about after hitting me head ;)

Dave, cheers for that dude. Can actually remember the photo video bit now and then Tommy heading home afterwards. Was it the right hander over a tiny stone bridge I passed you on? Fuzzy images in my head now you mention bits. Can't recall anymore but to be fair until you mentioned what you did I didn't remember anything after traffic lights by Cat and Fiddle so may be miles after I think it was you I past etc.

Oh and if owt you say sounds critical (it didn't to me) then don't worry, just say it. It's my problem if can't deal with it mate :) If I was being a **** then happy to be told.

To be fair I remember not long before that video bit passing someone and then you on an apparent blind uphill right hander, just before having to typically. mark a right hand junction (sharp junction on left hander with pub on it) soon after lol. So may not have seemed to be me riding the greatest depending on what could see etc :P

But yeah everything to help gain an idea if what happened is appreciated so ta for putting what you have!

no you cleared the stone bridge bit (boot came off there last year) it was little way after that you over took me after a slight up then down right hander then it ws up a hill and it was a lefter you came unstuck on.

I wouldn't say you were riding like a c0ck, nothing I saw looked unsafe (apart from maybe that bit with you and the sign) , you were definitely up to pace though

Good to hear from you Chris.
I tell you when I was laid up for a few month after my crash in 2009 the org was a great place to pass the time.
Get well soon pal and do as the physio say.
Even If you think your back to normal carry on with the excersizes I made the mistake of stopping once I could walk again and my left leg is still much smaller than the right 2 years after I'm now working out at the gym to build up the degraded muscle :)

I heard that in a government cost cutting measure they had recycled the metal from the road sign pole and used it to pin you back together as it's cheaper than titanium. But great news you are up and about.

Hiya Chris not logged on for a few days but popped in to see if there`s any news/progress. You`ll be sad to hear that i`ve also been extremely poorly...... in fact I`ve prob been more poorly than you as I`ve got man flu and there was talk of moving me to an intensive care bed last Saturday.

I`ve actually been so ill that I haven`t touched any of the chocolates or fruit I was bought however I have today managed to eat a packet of salt n` vinegar crisps and a fresh cream meringue but I did struggle :D

Looking forward to seeing you soon and keep up the progress hun x

He wont say it himself, so I'll say it, but Chris is bored to (almost) tears in hospital... and if any of the orgers want to visit, they should consider this the green light to do so.

Ignore his pleas of "not bothered about visitors," or "I'll see them soon enough anyway" go and visit him anyway.

He's had his arm re-plastered today too so is having a mump and moan about that...

SO

go see him people, and the person who takes him the Grande Quad Shot Caffee Americano from Starbucks will probably be his* best friend forever...

*but not the nurses

christopher
26-09-11, 02:47 PM
The boredom I can deal with... this new cast is a ****ing joke though. Mentioned to physios and nurses who agree and going to speak with consultant/doctor/surgeon (or anyone else who could do something about it) when I can.

But as Jen says, anyone is welcome to come visit of they so wish :-) I'm no longer a grumpy sod (well no more than usual eh) refusing to see anyone lol

No update on moving to Countess of Chester so I'm staying put for the time being. Any update to this I'll let you know.

As for any "progress" to report. Not a lot really. I walked down and up stairs today. Walking itself is still slow going and a little like stumbling but no problems or dizzyness doing it etc.

he's apparently got sick of "slumming it" in the 4 bed-day. They punted him out of his cushy private room the other day. lol :)

Yeah all being well I'll be home tonight. Had more x-rays on my reset dislocated shoulder and just waiting for doctor to review them. If all okay will get exercises from physio for it as currently they don't want it moving much.

Got a final neuro check which will be done as an out-patient (so no reason to be kept in for that) at a later date.

Still a long way till properly recovered... both arms not much use, left in a below elbow cast so not all that bad really, but right is the one I can't move a great deal at present. Then there's the fractured pelvis making walking difficult, it'll heal and come back but how long that'll take I don't know.

But yes, hopefully home soon! :)

Glad you're home.

Now the hard work begins.

Do the exercises. Make yourself work. You're young, so healing time is shorter than us old 'uns. But you must work at it if you want to be able to ride and move properly again. It'll hurt, but in the long run, the benefits outweigh the pain.

Pete ;)

As Jen has been neglecting this thread lately (:p only joking - I can't thank Jen enough for all she's done) here's a slight update from me if anybody is interested.

Earlier today I had more x-rays on my left arm (the one that has the metal plate/pins in) and right clavicle/shoulder, as well as seeing more doctors/physios.

The bone in my arm isn't quite fully healed, so once the cast was removed and the skin checked (all is good with the scar etc.) I had yet another cast put on. This one is for 4 more weeks... a chance it'll be okay in 2 weeks but the doctor thought it pointless to come back then as it may not be, which'd mean redoing the cast again. Slightly annoyed as this'll make it a total of 8 weeks in a cast for a broken bone (quite a bad one apparently but I didn't expect it to be this long, never mind).

The shoulder is what I had been told not to move (apart from some very minimal movements/exercises). Thankfully now they are happy for me to do more with it and it's a case of do not do X, Y or Z with it (this being various positions/movements, a couple I couldn't if I wanted to as not enough movement!) but apart from that list, anything else is just restricted by what I feel able to do on top of more specific exercises I've been given. It's a long way off and will be the item that takes the longest, but it will be fine in the end apparently (time scale unknown at the moment, nobody has given even a rough indication when asked repeatedly) and I'm now happier with being allowed to do more with it.

Apart from those the other main injury was the fractured pelvis, and while walking is still slow and slightly uncomfortable (annoying pain rather than hurtful) it's a case of keep doing whatever you want with it and the movement/strength will slowly come back to normal. There has been a noticeable improvement with it over the past week in terms of how far I can bend/lift my leg (it's still not great but much better than it was, and will continue to get better with time/exercise).

I think they are about the same price - this stuff is great - you put it on and then you can swim while you are asleep with your eyes open and smell a drop of blood in 100 million litres of water - or something.

But be careful of secondary injuries with the hula hoop. I ended up having to see the physio after pulling muscles in my back after hula hooping with my friend's little girls at a BBQ. I was in agony!

To the GSX-R750 I'll likely be getting once I'm able to get back on a bike? :p

Nah if I had an x-ray I was going to use that, but the only ones I have are on numerous NHS encrypted discs that University Hospital of North Staffordshire gave me to give to the Countess of Chester Hospital, only Chester cannot view them as they don't have the decryption key. Hospitals are useless at communicating with each other!

I just posted you a present...
I look forward to receiving and enjoying :D

Anything I can do to relieve this boredom? Something that doesn't include a camcorder and a hula hoop preferably - as amusing as that might be!

Well if you're going to do it, might as well do it well :p
Indeed. And to do it without even knowing, even better eh!

Oh dear, thats not good!
You're right it doesn't sound great to be honest. They're all saying it will be back to normal in the end with full movement etc. It just seems to be a ridiculously long "healing" stage (which after more x-rays and checks they're happy it's doing and all going well) before working on the movement/strength. Of all the injuries I really wouldn't have thought the dislocated shoulder would be the most problematic.

And yep you are correct, no weights full stop at the moment! Gripping bottle tops to (un)screw them is about the limit for now.

LPH has sent u a vibrating toy, i`m sure you will enjoy it mate ;)
What she's sent is better than that :p

I'm not surprised they needed a van - that envelope weighed a lot!

The big one is banana loaf with figs, sultanas and just a few almonds.

The little ones are banana, cinnamon and choc chip muffins. From a recipe by the Hummingbird Bakery which has the most fabulous cookery book that I am working my way through.

I make Raving Mavis the Hummingbird double chocolate cookies and for Southend Shakedown this year I made their peanut butter and choc chip cookies. They also have a recipe for gingerbread men which are the favourite of the Essex cricket team.

So have a look for more ideas of what you want next.

The rule is - you get the plastic box back to me and it gets refilled with something else.

It sure did weigh a fair bit... didn't expect you to send all that! One muffin enjoyed this afternoon, the others won't last long - yummy! Had a slice of the loaf this evening with some ice cream, also tasty. I will likely be abusing your niceness for more at some point, you can surprise me again with what you want to bake/send :)

And if I deliver the container to you in person can I get something like the cheesecake brownies (http://hummingbirdbakery.com/brownies/cheesecake-brownies/), they won't really work being posted :p

Christopher - of course I will make these for you, but can I draw your attention to this line in the recipe:

Please note that this product contains freshly whipped cream and should either be consumed within 1 hour of purchase or refrigerated.

Which means that unless you are near a fridge you are going to have to eat all 12 in one hour - or invite some friends round to share them.

I suppose I could halve the recipe and then you'd only be forced to eat six fresh cream raspberry cheesecake slices in an hour.

hmmmmmmmmmmm I think this is possible, I see a poll coming on

Will Christopher feel sick after six cream raspberry cheesecake slices in half an hour?

More to the point if attempted, can he hold it in?:smt077

LPH that won't be a problem :p MYC is just being mean because she knows I wouldn't share them with her ;)

And dizzy I'm liking how you halved the time from the original hour... tho I'm up for trying that and reckon it'd be a sure no and yes!

Just had a thought Chris, if you have pain, restricted movement etc, get yourself an IFT machine. I have one from my broken ankle and snapped knee.

I'm sure you have had the four pads and electrickery thingy from your physio, but one at home makes life so much mote fun!

Pete ;)

oops typo on my part! Although a half hour would be fun trying, it wouldn't half make you feel ill........in a spectacularly nice way :)
So..........whose up for watching you take up the challenge....and being around to finish off the other four, when you can only manage two:p

Is that a machine that helps you eat more cake?
