Mid morning. A bunch of folks on the previous guide had just left so timed out just right. I'll have some better photos on my camera.
Looks like there is one person right in the middle. You can see the memorial for miles around. Has anyone been to Tyne Cot? We visited lots of places on a school trip including the Menin Gate at Ypres.

West Indies v Rest of the World fundraiser at Lord's tonight. Hurricane relief in the Caribbean.
Shahid Afridi's last match.
I was the only photographer allowed to capture the guard of honour as he came out.
Then he popped into the Museum just to check that I was taking good care of a shirt he gave me back in 2009.
And as he left he announced that his foundation are donating $20,000 to the cause tonight. He's a top bloke.

Just a few shots from last weekend.
Mostly rained for the trip down and back.
The intense weather being four of the 7 hours ride down.
Had a good day Sunday though roads were damp in the morning.
7 and 1/2 hours of rain on the way home Monday but it was just normal rain
and fog like they have elsewhere in the world as compared to the usual
extreme weather of the mountains.
Rained continued there this week and last night there was flooding on many of
the roads I rode on.
Most of these pictures were taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Went for a jaunt today and ended up at an airfield cafe that rang a bell. Realised after a while it was the same place Daddyjob took us too on a rideout some four or five years ago. It was Wellesbourne Airfield in Warwickshire and the Touchdown Cafe. Last time we were there I recall looking down the far end of the field (without my glasses on - twerp!) and seeing something vaguely resembling a Vulcan. Well, today I had my glasses on and, yep, it's a Vulcan!
As it was a Saturday you can go and see it it (we were there on a Sunday last time) so I popped in. What a sight when you're right underneath it, looking up into the bomb bay that in the past held a nuke. They do organised visits where they show you around and I took the card for the co-ordinator. If there's enough interest then perhaps we can have a run out there.
In the mean time here is their website (http://xm655.com). And to whet your appetite I did of course bag a quick pic while I was there.

You must know the Blue Ridge Parkway very well by now!
It's 469 miles of curvy mountain roads through 2 national forests with fantastic views and very little traffic.
I'm a member of the end to ender club and have rode it end to end in both directions many times.
(Due to the extreme mountain road conditions, weather, wildlife, etc. it takes more than a day to ride in one direction)
If you think 469 miles of mountain roads doesnt sound like much, you have no clue as to the challenge you are about to face.
To be honest, as close as I can calculate, I've done more than 20k miles on the SV just on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I can pretty much look at any picture of the Parkway and then locate it on a map and give you the nearest milepost number and tell you about where It's located. LOL
Thinking of doing an end to end ride again this year.
If you document the trip and send the info in they will send you a certificate and a bunch of stickers.
I'm getting low on the stickers, so...
It's always more than just a ride though.
It only takes a couple of hundred miles on the Parkway to become an epic adventure, every time.
No one ever rode the BRP and said they had a normal day riding.

Thanks for asking.
Did good for the first two days but was sore by the time I got home. However recovered nicely in a couple of days.
Not bad considering it rode 7 hrs day1, 6 1/2 day 2, and 7 1/2 day three.
Love the Vulcan Sir Trev!

Not all skull and crossbone graves are pirates or buccaneers (other aircraft are available) as a quick Google will suggest. It was common on early graves to have them as motifs, a reminder if you like, of mortality and where we will all end up sooner or later. Personally I prefer the pirate side of the argument though. Yaaarrrr.
Quite a few like that in Bury St Edmunds. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180604/5c191fb3240639fe8af568a17ad9b3e6.jpg

Totally different story of pic tonight. A book launch for author Charles Cumming, he writes Le Carre spy thriller kind of books. And he's also now working on the second series of The Night Manager.
Anyway we got to know each other through the bloke on the right, he's an actor type, likes cricket, but we get on because we're both ginger, and tonight I attended the party for the launch of Charlie's new book.

Bye Bye Zafi, bought in 2004, final mileage 96k. Apart from consumables, it only required a radiator after getting a stone through it, a bypass kit for the EGR valve, which isn't bad in 14 years of motoring. Never stranded me on the side of the road, although it did try to kill me once.
Tail gated by a tired German delivery driver, so a new tailgate, then. Lots of adventures, holidays, trips and general workhorse duties. Bit sad to see it go, but I could see some big-ish bills turning up at the MOT or in the near future. Got £146 scrap for it, which went toward the cost of its replacement, which cost £700 with 36k on the clocks. I now have 2 silver machines :-)

My apologies then.
I'll give Shane a pass.
I have heard it said before about her trying to change him.
As for what he saw in her, that's easy, with those looks, just turn on the charm, flash those eyes and that smile and I'd follow her anywhere.
Or perhaps not.
I've been lucky enough to have dated a model, on and off a couple of times in the past.
She was very much the same type person with that same type of lifestyle.
And while I don't think I'd fall for that type again, I don't regret a minute of it.
We were never the right person for each other but gosh, I did have a lot of fun.
I'm betting Shane would probably tell you the same. LOL

From earlier in the week.
Had wanted to ride to the mountains but the extreme heat sent me on a much shorter, hundred mile round trip ride to my favorite pizza restaurant.
Did stop for a few pics along the way.
Beautiful abandoned old farmhouse.
https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1784/42278583555_2ef57018c1_b.jpg
Not too many of these creaky old wooden bridges left except on the unpaved roads.
They often called Troll Bridges as most are located at the bottom of a hill and usually covered in a dense fog on a summer night giving them their creepy appearance at night.
https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1761/43132431372_66ec9e2c80_b.jpg
Lovely view from the troll bridge.
Relaxing to hear the water running over the rocks.

The SV sits atop a more modern bridge over a larger river.

All the small rivers eventually join together to form a large one.
Note the low water level from extreme heat and drought so far this summer.

At last we are here at my favorite eatery to celebrate "Ungrateful Colonial Traitor's Day" (LOL) aka 'Independence Day' in the US.
Note: My family was still living near Calne in Wiltshire at the time which often makes me wonder, should I really be celebrating this?
It's not known but quite possible that some members of the family who served in the Military at that time could have actually been fighting against the colonists.

Unfortunately back in Blighty John.
But we had the best of the weather last week, it was cold and gloomy when we left, plus we went out from Stansted last Saturday.
I'm so glad it wasn't yesterday, it was complete mayhem in the the baggage reclaim last night, our flight was delayed by 3 1/2 hours because of the knock on effects of Fridays flight cancellations

Great pictures Mav, love the weather and scenery down there.
There is supposed to be some more warmth heading our way towards the end of the week.

Sure was, I'll upload some of my GoPro vids to Youtube, great roads for descending as a cyclist, and up and down on a Motard :-)
Unfortunately not my favourite descent which is Luz Ardiden, GoPro took a tumble from its mount the day before, which I have on video :-)
