Norton owners club had a small display at Hunstanton today, which was an unexpected bonus. Pity the weather wasn't the best, but it wasn't tipping it down, just a bit grey and miserable.

I would have to be retired to live somewhere like this.
There's no way I could leave this place to go to my work. LOL

Lunch stop for the day.
Been a while since I've done this but the town where I had planned on eating was under a nasty black storm with terrible lightning so I picked up some
cheese and crackers and a gatorade at a fuel stop and then stopped here on the mountain as soon as I got out of the rain.

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1814/43425014994_3868f2da7f_b.jpg

Although I was never in the heavy rain, wet roads with and fog would be the scenery the rest of the way home.
Does this qualify as an 'al fresco luncheon'?

Looks about as al fresco as you can get to me Bill!

Great pictures of stunning scenery as always, but what is so annoying is the fact that, even though you've just ridden through the rain, your bike is still clean!! :)

Can't really explain that.
Guess its been raining so much its cleaned the roads off.
Usually 10 miles in the rain means a brown bike but only had a light film of dirt on it when I got home.
But, if it makes you feel any better, I did have to wash it before putting it up.

Neither photo taken today but I hope you'll let me off. My first pic of Alastair Cook, aged around 15 and my last as he walked out to bat at Lord's for England for the last time, taken last month.

I have seen that geeky young kid become England's best batsman. And today I shed a tear when he retired. I'm proud of him, he's done all that while being a pleasure to work with and a friend.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/57c11d4b082740a8c25b5496348b3650.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/d5848c58c72aac0dd8f3379e50c56c99.jpg

Taken Sunday.

Went on a nice 220 mile ride to the mountains.
Was a very dark overcast day, more so than looks in the pics, but it never rained.
We won't mention the 30 miles or so through dense fog but other than that a perfect day to ride with nice cooler temps.

Farmers Market looking Autumn-ish, ready for the leaf peepers who will soon appear on the mountain roads.

Leaf peepers? What are they?

Yes leaf peepers are tourists who come to the mountains to view the fall colours.
Most are not used to mountain roads and often struggle to stay in their lane either from inexperience or inattention.
They are also famous for stopping in the middle of the road if they see a deer or just stop in the middle of a blind bend to admire the view.
It was once considered a derogatory term but Leaf Peepers have embraced the name.
It's ashamed they haven't embraced driving skills in the same way.

We get a similar breed over here in Wales. Flat capped/blue rinse pensioners filling the roads after school holidays. They drive spotless 10 - 15 year old Rover 75s at 35mph, oblivious to the queue of 50 or so cars behind them. Grrrrr!

Went to Manchester with wife and daughters last night to see Palaye Royale. Very entertaining and a great band who looked like they were really enjoying themselves. Very impressed with the band's thoughtfulness too. They stopped playing completely halfway through a song when they saw a young woman in the audience had passed out, and made sure she was moved to safety and was ok before they started playing again. They also took the time at the end of the show to come and meet everyone and have photos taken with them, even though they must have been pretty knackered and needing sleep.

Despite there being 6 of them on stage, Palaye Royale are actually just three. The bass player and guitarist on the right of the stage along with the keyboard player, back, left are session musicians with the band for the European tour.

Looks like a more modern boat used to ferry troops and vehicles from ship to shore like those made famous, or perhaps infamous, on D-Day .
Just guessing....

I was at a meeting with them, so unfortunately not available for trips round the bay :-)

You could get a couple of bikes on the ramp, but the rest is under cover for the troops.

When we left, one of the bigger ones was preparing to leave Plymouth and go round Lands End, as they practice beach landings on the North Cornish coast, on the soft sandy beaches. Better them than me going round Lands End in a flat bottom boat, bad enough in a normal one, although they only go when the weather is set good.

If you want a simial experience, go for a ride on the Wash Monster at Hunstanton in the summer

That landing craft looks fun Mav - you could always borrow it and invade, say, Grimsby for a laugh.

I've not shared many pics lately but here is one from the sunset last night on the seafront at Brighton. Lady Poppy and I went down to see the Monkey for the day and stopped overnight so we could have a nice dinner with her and her boyfriend Chris. Sitting at one of the beachfront bars enjoying a beer we watched the sun go down behind what's left of the ruined West Pier and were treated to a flying display by a massive flock of swirling starlings. Absolutely mesmeric.

Couple of pictures from my walk with Mabel yesterday.

This at the end of October! To be fair, it's on a warm, south facing slope...

This is a bit further round and on the final section back to the village. This wonderful old oak is one of my favourite trees. I'd estimate it at being between 200 - 300 years old. It's much bigger than it appears in this picture.

Hope you didn't find & eat any ripe blackberries, Gary.
" Old Michaelmas Day is also called “Devil Spits Day”; it's the last day that blackberries should be picked, according to old British folklore "
That wouldn't make them very tasty!

There don't seem to be any ripe ones left now. Don't much fancy blackberries coated in Beelzebub's spit!

was just testing it out. i'll be tying some scud's with it. what i have noticed is that you can colour the materials with felt pens so i think if i tied a few "ghost" flies i could colour them at the water side.

but yes it does look like a maggot :-)

I saw an article in a magazine where they used flies tied to look like maggots, and they were very effective, certainly for coarse fish.

Trout love maggots too, but purists don't approve :smt077
