I have a full photograph type bike licence, but can't find the paper bit that goes with it. Paper counterpart.
Do I need to order a new one or will my photo licence be enough for doing a couple of test rides? Is there anything else they are likely to ask for? |

Depends on your dealer. My usual Triumph dealer say that they need the paper part, but don't seem to mind if you forget it.

Generally they request the paper part. I guess it's to check the "points / disqualification" situation. However, they can call the DVLA for this information and the DVLA will release as long as they have your approval.

lets say you had points
would a dealer refuse you a test ride despite being genuinely interested in buying?

Some dealers want it some don't. From doing all the test rides this year I carry it with me as it makes it easier. But if you haven't got it so long as the dealer thinks you're really interested in the bike and you've built up a good dialog then it shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Parkinsons of Colchester did my 4k service yesterday and offered a test ride on the Gladius and the Ducati 1198s while I was waiting, even though I had already said I was very happy with my K8 at the moment and not looking to buy anything. I opted instead to go for breakfast, as I have a cold.
But was all round impressed with the customer service as Parkinsons as it is the first time I have used them. Really helpful, said any tme I wanted to get the chain double checked or there was anything else I wasn't sure on, still being quite a newbie then just drop in and they'll talk me through what I need to check, or do the checks for free. And they have sorted out my clutch lever so I can reach it more easily with my little hands. |
