Lightbulb Red bull soap box race.

Right guys its in London this summer, who's entering or fancies doing it?
www.redbullsoapboxrace.co.uk

I'm interested, not that I know what I'm doing if I'm honest, but up for it.

Your human-powered racing machine must not exceed a maximum of 2m wide and 5m long, be at least 10cm from the ground and no taller than 2.5m. It must not exceed 80kg in weight (excluding the driver, of course).

Soapboxes must be powered by the force of gravity and your imagination only. So no stored power or external energy sources are allowed. But that doesn’t mean you won’t go fast so fully functioning brakes and steering are required. Modified prefabricated cars, kit-cars and vehicles such as bulldozers, steamrollers or tricked-out minis are not allowed.
OK so you cant sneak an SV lump in there

Seen this advertised, it would be a laugh, im certain i could build one that would hold its own.

Wooden chassis, wooden skeleton, ply wrapped, thin wheels, light as possible.

It would be time for me and the fact its in Londoninium, that puts me off instantly.

Stretchie pointed this out to me. I suggested recreating the opening sequence of Cool Runnings...

The wife has already submitted an application and we have a team ready to go, just waiting to hear if our place gets confirmed!

The one thing I've noticed from those ads is you really need some rear suspension for those jumps! Forget about front suspension. You don't need that. When you hit those jumps though, if you want to stay in your seat rear suspension will provide an amazing elegance nobody else will have! As a good example, see how trophy trucks take stoooopid terrain without flinching due to a soft squidgy bum.
