Right first off this is not one of those who's the cheapest threads.
My insurance is up for renewal in the next couple of months and it got me thinking... I have a multi-bike policy for the SV and my CBR, I have had it for a few years now as the CBR although not used was parked out side. The CBR still is not back on the road, and I doubt it will be for a while so what are my options for insuring it? Basically I only need cover for if it goes missing. If i still keep it insured through a multi-bike policy as its currently undergoing major modification do I need to declare this? Basically I'm fed up with insurance as due to my age I have to make a lot of phone calls to get a reasonable price. I'm fed up also with explaining not only what a motorcycle is and the fact I own more than one, but each time I have to give a history lesson on the gray import market and my bike. So in summary whats the best way to insure a bike that is not used on the road? |

2ways i can think about it but i have no idea if either will work. First one is house contense insurance but for that i think it would have to be in a garage and it would definately need to be a declaired item as i doub it falls into your 5grands worth of electrics bracket, second is just give any bike insurer a call and ask them if they can cover a bike for fire and thelt but not to be riden. The worst they can say is no. Id try carole nash as they always seem to have slightly less retarded people on the end of the line compaired to some of the others but that might just be my luck.

The house contents one comes up now and again but I looked into this one time (I had an SV on order but no licence) and I was told that motor vehicles will not be covered as contents. But you know other firms may say different. I reckon its unlikely tho.

I think Adrian Flux are meant to be good for non-standard bike (and car) insurance. I don't have any personal experience with them but I have friends that have used them and recommend them. They do "laid up cover for your projects" which might be what you're looking for. Worth a try especially as they claim that "our sales staff are experienced underwriters, based in the UK, not just 'computer monkeys'"!.
