Hi there
This is my first thread. I am going to be honest and confess that I do not know much about bikes ![]() I rang my suzuki dealer to book in for a service and he said I NEED a valve service (my bike has done over 16,000 miles). What exactly is a valve service? He said it'll cost me about £400 just for the service. Do I need one? Reason I ask on a forum is that I have been ripped off nearly £300 before during a "service" and I don't want the same thing to happen! Thanks for your opinions Doolz77 |

Yes it does need the valve clearances checked at that mileage. It isnt a big job to check them and they usually dont need anything more doing, but it is a fairly big job if they do.

Mine has just had the valves done and the shims were allegedly changed round. £500 for a 4 service pack doesn't sound so bad now.

FYI, I have a 2004 SV650s. I will take it to my suzuki guys next week unless I find a cheaper (but not reflected on the actual service) option

I paid £168 for my valve check service... That was at J&S Doncaster, the local Suzuki dealer, the clearances did not need adjusting but I was told that the price was all inclusive.
I think you need to either buddy-up or shop around (I took my bike to 3 places and the highest quote was Triumph, £350.. I fancied a street triple for 24 hours) |
