Default Starter motor brush replacement?

pls can anyone advise.. is there anywhere to buy new SM-14 brushes for the mitsuba starter motor? How do the brushes fit in - looks to me like they need soldering, is that so? Is it possible / worthwhile doing this? I stopped off to fuel up this AM and bike wouldn't turn over. AA man gave the SM a gentle tap, having checked the battery, and it started up ok. On inspection, one of the brushes is nearly level with the "hole" that the starter motor contact sits in. Any advice, much appreciated.

Al.

I managed to replace some on an rs125 starter before. The brushes were completely worn down with bare wires remaining. I found some brushes that looked almost the right size and cut/filled them into shape. Worked perfectly , the brushes I used were for a vacum motor from a hardware store lol. saved me about 100 quid

Personally I'd opt for the replacement of the starter motor. Suzuki do not list the brushes as a part and while you might be able to adapt a replacement I'd think it would be an easier job just to swap units over.

ok - thanks for the replies gents. I don't want to lob out a large amount of cash just for worn brushes, so I have located a dealer who sells Mitsubi brush repair kit #8 for all SV650 models.
Costs £29.99 inc postage and includes the entire brush plate, so no soldering needed. Motorsportelectrics (ebay shop). Called them up to confirm part, seem like a good outfit. Quick job, low cost, and she will be fine once more....
