Default Another Insurance Thread.

My SV1000 arrives this week so it's back to the joy of trawling the web for quotes.

I had my SV650 insured with Swinton but when I got my GSXR they wouldn't cover me so I had to switch. I went with MCE who were the cheapest.

I've done a few quotes and MCE are coming out cheapest at £193 fully comp with all the bells and whistles of RAC cover, leather and helmet etc. Equity Redstar are the most expensive at just shy of £3000 so I'm probably not going to go with them...

I'm using all the price comparison sites and wanted to know whether anyone has any other routes I should be looking at before I part with my cash? Also, has anyone ever actually had a claim with MCE before? I work in finance myself and I know cheap is great until you need to make a claim and then you realise why they were cheap. Any past experiences of actual claims would be good to hear about.

Thanks in advance folks.

Yes, i made a claim with them about 7 years ago. It was an accident that wasn't my fault, and to be fair they were ok about everything. Fairly quick response, good communication, good results in terms of financial compensation for bike/gear/injuries etc.
I've not used them since so can't comment on their services now.

MCE are a set of thieving lying *rseholes who will ignore almost all legitimate communication until you write the managing director directly threatening action with the ombudsman.

Well worth spending a bit extra to go with anyone else.

There are two insurance companies I would avoid at all costs.

1) Swinton

2) MCE

I've got the Thou and my insurance is just over £100 fully comp with Motorcycle Direct - have you tried them?

and I concur that MCE should be given a wide berth cos they are cheap for a reason - they are awful in dealing with when trying to sort claim or issue.. tbh I am surprised they still have a business running with the amount of BAD Press they get..

Everyone else is coming in at around the £325 mark but from what I've seen on the tinterweb it may well be a better investment.

One thing I find a bit annoying is practically every insurance website I go to seems to be some sort of comparison service which no doubt takes a commission. I'm going to have to delve a bit deeper and see if I can cut out the middle men.

You don't have to delve very deep, do the comparison stuff then ring direct!
