Default Few test shots from an AR13 route practice

Wasn't sure if these could be entered into the June competition as Wild things in wild places. But here are a few shots of a recent GM run to practice the AR13 route. Get practicing your pose for this bend as I'll be official AR photographer this year......

Second pic is a bit dark, and the last one with that yellow thing in it is masked by grass, I think we need a new photographer

They were a bit rushed as I had to get back and practice making cakes too!

Need some spot metering an AI focusing and you'll be sorted. Maybe shoot at 1/500th or faster with an f2.8 to get a nice blurry background.

Problem is from head-on the headlight takes precedence in the metering. I had it centre weighted for exposure with spot focus. May just expose for the road, set it all to manual and leave it alone. Biggest challenge is my lens is not fast enough to refocus even on servo mode when they are coming straight at you at almost XXX MPH! May have to run smaller aperture just to stand a chance of keeping the bike in focus.

Unfortunately I don't stretch to anything that can do 300mm at f2.8 anyway. Looking at the EXIF these were F8 1/500 at ISO100. COuld up to say ISO400 but then starts to get a bit grainy.

But hey... a blurry dark photo is better than no photo at all!

If anyone has a decent Canon fit lens of c300mm I can borrow for AR then I can make you all look a lot cooler

Do you need to go to 300mm - a 200mm F2.8 with image stabilising would do the trick as you could crop. Definitely meter for the road as headlights are always an issue. Alternatively, ask everyone to ride REALLY slowly.

I have similar issues photographing cricket, on a sunny day the bright white outfits give you blown highlights and the ball is travelling very fast. Sometimes directly at my head.

This is Raving Mavis at Snetterton - he'll tell you he was going quite quick.

I have nothing so fancy. We did have it covered but now it's down to what I have in my lowly kit bag.

Isn't it about time this thread derailed into talking about balls travelling at LPH's head?

Or is that scheduled for Page 2?

Don't joke, my other photographer has just had £400 worth of damage done to a lens only worth £500 if she replaces it with one second hand one after a ball hit it last Saturday in the indoor nets. Lucky she saw it coming and avoided a black eye even if her lens is mashed.

Lets hope we don't start a specific teabagging thread by accident....
