Ok, so the main fuse on my bike blew today leaving me with no electrics and my alarm constantly going off (most annoying)
![]() For those of use who thought that all the fuses were under the seat above the battery, they are apart from the main fuse. The main is located on the starter relay (right hand side, behind the little panel below the seat, under the green cover). The live is on the left and the spare is on the right. Quick call out to the AA as I was without tools or a spare fuse (I now know what the one on the right is for) and it was sorted. However I was told that it may go again at anytime! ![]() So my questions are… What would have caused the fuse to blow? Why didn’t it blow immediately again? And are there any preventative measures I should take or is it just going to be a wait and see approach? |

Check behind the frame under & around the fuel tank. It is possable that you had some water ingress short something out.

On the curvy models (yours is 99?) there were a number of points where the wiring harness would chafe. It's been well documented in the past.
Look behind both the rider seat bolts (take off the black plastic triangles, remove seat bolts). They are a bit too long and there's wiring directly behind the frame where they go. Shorten the bolts, or add washers. Check the wiring and tape up as necessary (do it to protect it even if it's not chafed). Check under the pillion seat in the toolbox/inside the side panel area where the wiring runs round the edge of a frame bracket on the left side of the bike towards the rear. There have also been reports of chafing up at the headstock region. |

Yep mines the '99 Classic!
Wiring is fine around the rear end, but I havn't heard about the headstock before so will check that out in daylight. But will deffinatly add some more tape just to be sure. If the wires have been damaged why did the fuse not blow again when the new one went in? |
