Default Tyre plugs

I know everyone advises against using externally applied plugs to fix flat tyres on a motorbike, but has anyone actually had one blow out while they were riding?
Last weekend I had a flat in a Z6 Metz with 12,000 kms on, and stuck a plug in to ride 100 kms to get home.
I didn't go over 110 KPH and I'm ready for a new tyre anyway, but I'm curious whether anyone has any horror stories to tell.

Never heard of a plug you can stick in the hole from the outside, (well not for a tyre anyway). Sounds like a good idea for a get you home fix.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one.

Or am I being incredibly stupid because I've seen puncture repair kits for motorbikes but never got one because I thought you took the tyre off and applied it from the inside. I really think I've been incredibly thick

HG sell them there only meant as a temporary repair though!! Also I think BMW have them in there tool kits as standard.

I used a kit I bought for $7 from Canadian Tire (Our version of Halfords). It's for fixing car tyres. You get a rasp to ream out the hole, a needle with a hook on the end, and four rubberized rope plugs. You just poke a plug into the hole and pull out the needle. Job done! You need an air pump of course. It's quite common practice for car tyres but this is the first time I've used one for a bike tyre so I checked on the internet to see if people thought it was a safe repair and not many do! However, I just wonder if people are assuming that it's not safe or if they've actually had bad experiences.

Cdn $7 sounds a lot better than £19
don't see why it wouldn't work, but what do I know?
Why would it lead to catastrophic failure of the tyre as opposed to possibly a small leak that you could safely monitor for?

I rode with one for about 100 miles mostly motorway work around 80mph ish a couple of years back after narrowly escaping a scene from deliverance in Magor.

Didn't have any problem from it, everything felt good, but I had the trye replace once I got back home. However before I discovered the puncture I had ridden a further 100 miles with a flat rear at over 100mph, on the M4, in the wet (I just thought it was handling a little sluggish before I pulled in to the services and found steam coming off the rear trye) so if it started to leak I doubt it would be that much of a prob. If it popped out I could see that being inconvenient. As all the paraphernalia states its not for prolonged use, just in case...

And why not prolonged use sounds similar to how they repair a car puncture?

Because it is temporary, same for cars.

It will PROBABLY be OK for a long time, it will PROBABLY not fail, but in this litigious state, they need to make you aware that it is temporary and get-you-home-slowly only.

Personally I would be happy to use one (never had to luckily, but I always carry one) but I would get it sorted properly ASAP.
