cutting a centre stand out

ive got a CBR, and my centrestand is broke off on the left hand side,

now the only way i can get it out, is by cutting though it on the right and replacing the axl that has broken itself off.

ive gone in with mole grips and hammer, but still no luck, so i need to cut through the metal.

tried hacksaw, took about 30 mins to cut 1mm into the metal axl due to the engine and swing arm getting in the way.

ive got a dremel with some metal cutting discs, how do i use it ?

just spin the thing up and attack it ? or have i gotta be gentle ?

Similar thing happened on my 125. The spring snapped off leaving it dragging along the road
The only way to get it off was also to hacksaw it off which I didnt fancy so just tied it up with some electrical wire
Rattled like hell and ment I had to take it all off whenever the chain needed adjustment (which was a lot ) but it kept me going untill I passed my test and got my sv
But anyway......good luck with ures!!

how about welding it back on?

id rather just get the whole thing off, rather than not riding my bike til i buy weilding gear and learn to weild.

Yeh that weilding gear is hard to find, might have more luck with some welding gear mind you

Yep the metal cutting discs are the best (so much fun). I've used it to do similar things to a VFR center stand and the exhaust mounting bolts on a Bandit to name my highest conquests. If this is your first time, and I'm no expert, take things steady you don't want to slip (ouch!). Get the blade spinning before making contact, the speed should be on the instruction manual but I go for some where fast but not the top.

If your using the standard cutting discs they are ok but fragile and will shatter quite easily. I invested in a set of the Heavy Duty Metal Cutting Discs after going though 15 standard discs on the Bandit and only used up one, cause it wore out.

The final thing to say is safety. Make sure the wire is well out of the way, and wear some eye protection as you will have little bits of metal, dust, and disc flying all over the place.

cool, so i dont need any cutting agent or anything ?

saftey gear , my helmet and gloves should do the trick.

the instructions arnt very clear at all, so ive figured out how to use it, it says on the cutting disc max speed 3k RPM, but ive got no idea how to set it to that, ill just stick it on a medium speed i think.

I've never used a Cutting agent (don't even now what one is!).

Helmets a good idea as the visor will stop anything, but I wouldn't go for the gloves myself as they might reduce feel. I usually wear latex gloves while working on the bike and this should be fine for the Dremel as its really only to stop bits of grit getting in cuts etc.

As for the speed you suggest that sounds about right but you'll get a feel for it once you start.

i love the dremel, its great.

i went through a couple of the standard discs, they broke every 2 or 3 mins, then went for the reinforced disc, and done the whole job, it was a bit fiddly getting the dremel in there, as it was all pretty tight and didnt have alot of space to work on, but the job got done.

tried some of those wire brush adaptor bits and had a go on a rusted bolt,
brung it up spotless, so have gone through a few wire brushes making my bike loook brand new

then came and cut up some beer cans just for the sake of it
