Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (depending on when you read this).
Im looking at getting a new phone and contract as buying the phone for pay as you go is just silly (£440). Im looking at the HTC Desire, and probably a Orange contract. The problem im facing atm is that for some odd reason the orange web site aint got this phone on it and I know that Orange does the phone, my brother is meant to be getting one tomorrow... Phones 4 U seem to have the phone on Orange for £32 a month including insurance on a 18 month contract. Seems like a good deal but as far as support goes id imagine going straight to Orange would be the better bet. So a few questions: 1. Has anyone used the HTC desire? What you think? Reviews are all very +ve. 2. Anyone used Phones 4 U and particularly their insurance or problem line (or whatever you call it?) Oh and no im not giving Apple my hard earnt money so please dont mention it. ![]() Last edited by ThEGr33k; 12-04-10 at 01:42 PM. |

I got my phone from carphone warehouse, was cheaper than phones 4 U and the insurance was better. The carphone warehouse insurance was good though never had a problem when I used it and it took about 5 minutes of them in the shop to get it sorted and for an extra about £2 a month you can get it so you can cancel the contract half way through good if you want a newer phone before the end of your contract

Ive had my HTC desire for about 2 weeks now and so far its been very good
I have two issues with it, Email while generally good is not up to the standard im used to (just replaced a blackberry, nothing beats blackberrys for email) and the screen is not great in sunlight... but the screen is awesome when there is no direct sunlight. I can type rapidly on it, the web browser is superslick, so many good applications for it, call quality is great, battery life is reasonable for a smartphone, slim and light, HTC sense UI is great to use, the build quality is generally outstanding and everything happens without delay the CPU on it is very powerful. I got mine from carphone warehouse on vodafone, just dont trust phones 4 u. Overall I would highly recommend it. |

honestly nick, buying an apple product doesn't feel anything like dancing with the devil... that's much more fun
![]() you don't live far from apple store in meadowhell - go spend 20 mins playing with an iphone and calling your mates (for free) = you can go on the net, make calls, play with apps, mess around etc... really great phones, you won't be disappointed ![]()

I've got one of the Desires also. No problems so far - screen seems fine to me even in direct sunlight...
My battery life doesn't seem great, but I've been reading that it takes a fair few charges before it reaches it maximum capacity/longevity. The appp market doesn't seem as good as the iPhones, but I guess this will getter better eventually... I got mine from mobilephonesdirect. 18 months on T-mobile, free phone, £30 a month, 600mins, 500texts, unlimited web, and I got a free 16gb microSDhc card. For me, this was the best deal as I don't use a massive amount of mins or texts. |

Looked at Carphone warehouse and they cant get near the deal that Phones 4 U do... 24 months at £30 a month + insurance, thats loads more
![]() Why dont people trust Phones 4 U? Quote:
Apple for me is a terrible company, one of those that just seem to want more and more and more money for pretty much nothing. Prime example, ipod touch wouldnt run apps, brother takes it in and they say "you use a PC? That will be the problem." Guess what it was? A duff OS update they did, I had a look updated it and it worked. What the hell though, they didnt even try to help! Finally, look at the Desire, higher spec in pretty much every way. Then on top of that Id have to have an iphone id have to go for £35 a month contract (plus insurance) and then pay £180 on top for the handset. Desire, £32 a month with insurance and no up front charge, and the bonus of not lining Jobs (the Ar$e in charge of Apple) pockets. Sorry Paul... that was a bit of a rant... but Grrr something about Apple just makes my skin crawl. Last edited by ThEGr33k; 12-04-10 at 05:34 PM. |

I've got a small bit of feedback about the Orange version of the Desire specifically - it seems that it comes preloaded with a fair few apps from Orange in place of the standard ones, and some of them are quite substandard according to the guy at work who picked his up at the weekend. Seems to suck batteries dry PDQ too, from that same account.
I'm going to take a look at the T-Mobile one tommorow at lunch, as its upgrade time for me from my G1. The G1 was left fairly unmolested by the network, so I'm looking for good things from that point of view. |
