I have used them, a fair amount, Lee's ive played with a lot and my sisters ipod touch is basically the same. I just dont get on with them.

Apple for me is a terrible company, one of those that just seem to want more and more and more money for pretty much nothing. Prime example, ipod touch wouldnt run apps, brother takes it in and they say "you use a PC? That will be the problem." Guess what it was? A duff OS update they did, I had a look updated it and it worked. What the hell though, they didnt even try to help!

Finally, look at the Desire, higher spec in pretty much every way. Then on top of that Id have to have an iphone id have to go for £35 a month contract (plus insurance) and then pay £180 on top for the handset. Desire, £32 a month with insurance and no up front charge, and the bonus of not lining Jobs (the Ar$e in charge of Apple) pockets.

Sorry Paul... that was a bit of a rant... but Grrr something about Apple just makes my skin crawl.
Dude, you have issues! If you don't like some, don't buy it- no one is holding an apple gun to your head!

mine too, but I'm currently using an iPhone paid for by work. Admittedly that takes all the expense away but boy are these good devices.

Its the most versatile phone/device I've ever used. The biggest advantage is the available apps, simply brilliant.

Hope Orange haven't gotten rid of any useful features etc. Will be phoning them tomorrow to see what deal I can get on an upgrade, they were out of stock today so couldn't do anything.

OK got the phone and had it for 5 days.

Initial impressions were;

Great screen, the high resolution and bright colours and great contrast really make looking at the screen easy!

Then QWERTY keypad is great, almost all characters and numbers are available on the default keyboard (no switching to numbers and abbreviation pages) with only the odd abbreviation on other pages. Typing is easy and the system puts up predictions of what it is you are wanting to type, 5 options at a time so you can cut down on typing. It also fixes spelling mistakes with no hasle. Also adding new words or names to the predictor is easy, as you type the word one of the 5 options at the top is what you actually typed, simply click that and its added.

Internet on the phone is very easy smooth and fast. Again the high res screen makes looking at pages easy as even when they are big sites you can read all the text without zooming in. Also because of the hard keys on the phone the whole screen is left for the internet page, to go forwards and backwards simply tap a hard button then the back key, effectively makes the screen much larger.

Battery life, started out perhaps a little low, would have got a day and half of pretty high use but that seems to be up after a couple of charges to around 2.5 days, which for a "smart phone" isnt bad at all imo.

Last thing I can think of atm is the camera. 5 mega pixel, so not bad, not as good as some other phones out there but I have to say the quality is very nice considering. It has an LED flash which works reasonably well indoors. It also works as a camcorder and records in 480x800 which is great as that is the same res as the screen of the phone.

As to orange "stuff" that you mention Phil, there are a few things on there that you dont really need but its not all bad. You can simply forget its there, or if you really want rid no doubt hack it out, android is open source so no doubt people have already made programs so you can get rid of bundle crap.

All in im over the moon, I find it much easier to use than the ipod touch/iphone and the screen and style makes them look old hat. The only real advantage i think the apple as is perhaps the apps, but I haven't found anything I really want that the phone don't already have.

I'm waiting on a Natwest app, amongst a couple of others. No great issue though.

Watching Youtube videos on the phone is an absolute pleasure. Beebplayer now also allows live tv streaming, if not a little battery hungry.

I got the Sony Ericsson xperia x10 and am absolutely loving it. It may not have thousands of apps but hey it has everything I want and more. The screen is a beaut and watching films or youtube is fantastic. The updates for twitter, facebook, etc is excellent. The internet is perfect.
Overall 10/10
As for the contract, well i'm on the wifes staff tariff so it's unbeatable. But seriously would recommend the X10 phone.
Ste.
