a bit harsh to be charged though in my opinion, and i've certainly never been charged by an MOT station near where i live for a partial retest.

Got it sorted now. Managed to get the piston out but it was covered in really hard stuff so I took it down to BDS and they stripped it, cleaned it and fitted new seals for £45 so now my caliper is as good as new.

Got my new pads in just need to buy the right size crush washers for the banjo bolt as it was leaking fluid after tightening it. Havent bled the system yet, just flushed it through and the left over fluid was leaking from around the Banjo bolt. Anyone know what size washers the Banjo bolt uses? Going to go Halfords tomorrow and use my old washers as comparison but if anyone knows the size I can order them online tonight. Thanks.

I don't think I've been charged for a partial retest either, I suppose it depends what needs retesting though.
My SV failed on a sticky rear caliperna few years ago and I took it back for a retest 4 weeks later (caught a viral infection which laid me up for a couple of weeks) and they still only did a partial retest and didn't charge me.

A stealer did the daughter for her car MOT, failed because of a dent on the wheel rim. He wanted to fit a new wheel. I said no, I would repair it myself and return it for retest. They refused to do the retest if I removed it from the premises and then tried to scare the daughter by requiring her to sign a disclaimer that she was removing a "dangerous" vehicle against their advise.

3 wallops with a big hammer and dent in rim repaired, off to local station where it flew through. pain was we had to pay twice for the MOT.

The only thing wrong with my bike was the rear pad was really low, almost down to the metal. My own fault for not checking both rear pads but now I know why only 1 pad had worn away. Just need some DOT4 and crush washers for the Banjo bolt.

The mechanic thought all it needed was new pads, not a rebuild, so hopefully when I tell him what was wrong he may retest for free considering all he has to do is check my rear pads as everything else passed.

My eldest daughter gets her own cars MOTd local to me in Bedford, even though she's lived in either London, Leicester or Warwick. She took her first car to a garage I know very well when she was 17 and walked up to the counter and said "I'm Laurie's daughter, he told me to bring my car to you for the MOT and for you to call him if it has any problems". They've never tried to rip her off or bull5hit her about anything cos they know I'll be down there like a shot wanting to know what the problem is. She's had cars fail, but it's always been for genuine reasons and they've done the work at a decent price.

Doesn't happen much since she got a company car and only buys the odd toy four-wheeler to play with, which happens to be a 1992 Discovery for playing off-road at the mo.
