As tempting as this sounds, I think that if I go down this path, then I will probably wire in a manual switch as temporary repair until I can get a new thermoswitch from my brother in law.

How hot did it get Jayne.

From memory I think mine had to get to about 105 to kick in and then dropped back out about 100

Mine usually starts at 101 degrees and drops down to about 95 degrees. The temp rose to 109 degrees yesterday before the traffic started to flow again and it dropped back down to 105.

105 is about right, at 115 or so unpleasant things occur.

They are cheap. PM davepreston he has a spare knackered rad with switch on it.

after 9 months of having the bike i discovered that my fan switch was toast too. I discovered it in standstill motorway traffic on the way to Dover. Bike got to a very scary 118 at one point and came to the point where i had to filter at a rate of knots to get it cool or pull over and shut off.

Got v. interesting in 35 degree monaco heat too
I hear that there's an internal shutoff temp around 120ish? Or by shutoff do i mean eject its own innards and shutoff forever?

Depending on how accurate your temperature gauge is--------but I think that a 50/50 mix has a boiling temp of round about 107C or 108C

Right then, it is now bodged with in an inch of it's life. Dash mounted switch so I can manually turn it on when it starts to get hot. I have checked it and it all seems fine, but while I was at it, I did a cheeky oil and filter change too!

Good stuff - I'm not sure the words 'dispatch rider' and 'chic' can ever fit in the same sentence though.
