Awesome. Hats off to 'em - that's the way to generate some additional revenue. With an attitude like that we'll soon be out of recession.

Yeah, exactly. Why do I have to pay more for NOT riding my bike? Surely the chances of crashing it inside my garage are slim? And if someone wants to steal it they will have to move the barge of a car out of the way first, and all the junk in the garage, good luck there!

Have fun trying - I've had to move it while I'm away as a mate is using my garage!

So if you sorn bike for a month or two over winter to save paying tax when your not riding it then you need to notify insurance co and get sorn insurance or you just sorn it and say nothing to insurers but find out your insurance is void if it gets nicked while sorned? I think it just as easy to keep it taxed for 12 months even if its unridden for two of them. confused.

I suspect they're getting confused about the "roadworthiness" clause that most policies have.

If anyone can find a policy wording where a Sorn'd vehicle is excluded I'd be very interested to see it. Anything's possible but I'd be very surprised if such a condition exists.
I've never seen anything like that before either. And as a buyer who has to disclose everything to an insurer then an insurer has to disclose everything to me. I think its a statement of needs or something like that (can't remember the exact title) that comes with all financial services documents. Misselling?

Quite right. It's a contract of Utmost Good Faith on both sides. There's nothing in the contract that says you're not insured if the bike's SORN(unless someone can find me a policy that says otherwise) so they can't just make up some additional random rules.

People laying their bikes up over Winter is hardly a rare event. Plus it reduces risk, so not even a material fact that needs disclosing.

I can't see them adding anything useful TBH.

Tell you what, I'll ask the Ombudsman

You do get some good days even in Jan /Feb .
So for all the hassle you might as well keep it licensed .
