What voltage can you read off it? If it's 10v or so it's dead but will probably charge OK with a normal charger, less and it could be knackered but recoverable with a smart charger, much less and it's knackered and new battery time.

Leaving it for 6 months without a smart charger/optimiser, especially on an older battery in cold conditions, don't be surprised if it's knackered.

If your battery is still good after being left since last years AR I'll eat my hat.

Well multimeter has gone walkies along with half of my tools. Never let the missus near em...

However I borowed a "Halfords Fully Automatic Battery Charger", left it charging for about 3 hours and its already gone from "Charging" to "Ready and Maintaining".

Leaving it plugged in for now, til I can get some fuel into the SV to test the battery

Get that hat ready!

Don't use VX chain, get VM or ZVM.
Or go for tsubaki alpha/sigma.

Low grade chain isn't worth it on SV. The £70 one on m and p will certainly be the cheapest knicker elastic sh*te ever made.

I have that charger. Ready and maintaining just means feedback voltage got above a certain level. Does not mean it will supply amps or hold a charge.

Well I actually got the chain from ebay, a D.I.D one, yet to fit and use but its bought.

I borrowed a Halfords Charger from my mate and from the same mate just nabbed a multimeter. After 2 days standing I am getting 12.58v reading - sounds good to me?

Well I hope I'll have time at the weekend to get the battery back in, and all the new parts on - then its MOT time!
