I think today's new riders are missing out with there being very few 2-stroke machines available - I always thought they were great fun

Ah the TZR125...

I was riding mine when I was 17/ 18 and after I powervalved it I could see 96mph on the dial. I had to tighten everything up at the start of the ride and then again at the end. Indicators and bar ends were considered consumable items. If I wanted to brake I needed to give a weeks notice in writing, and the rear shock made it feel like a hardtail.

However it made me the rider I am today and I wouldn't have changed it for all the Mito's in the world, little power and no brakes teaches you how to carry speed in a corner.

If I had to choose between the SV and the TZR? I don't know if I could!

Even after riding bigger bikes I could still have fun on that TZR125 - there's a certain sense of satisfaction you get from riding a small capacity 2 stroke near it's limit and you're not even doing stupid speeds. Unfortunately the lack of overtaking power can make it frustrating as hell on our congested roads.

Funny you say that, My first bike was a beezer C15 and yes, I could ride that at it's limit but still be going pretty slowly if I got it wrong. Back in those days, the roads were deserted too.

Went from a GPZ600 to a TZR 250 back in the late 80s, what a hoot that bike was!
Only problem was it had a special paint job - Vance and Hines - so denying it was me hooning around the night before was impossible to get away with when the friendly traffic cop enquired

Without wishing to hijack this thread... so averse to braking was I to maintain speed I hardly ever used the brakes! But when I did it was full holy shiz and they worked ok. Pads on TZR were like new.

Back to OP, do you really want to say goodbye to all that??? Think how you can carry on, you have evolved a biking gene which will keep you hankering for a potter even if it's not a hoon. You are genetically different from non-bikers!!!

It was going to be "all over" for the SV but in the end the TZR went. I agree, it would be very difficult to give bikes up altogether, but I can't see me getting back to the levels of fun and mileage I had 10 to 15 years ago but with some mod's to the SV I'm going to give it another go.

Good lad.
As the old saying goes, "Where there's a will, there's a funeral" or something like that.
See you around!
