Re: Operation: Commute
Ah yes the Tyga fairing. I may and or may not have had a chat with the UK importer regarding the conformity of the headlight...
But before that (as its not exactly cheap) I need to replace the plastic tyres with rubber ones. |

Re: Operation: Commute
Well today I decided to fix my tyre issue. So first I stuck the Grom on the bench and removed the wheels. Getting the rear out was a little more work than I wanted as it turns out Honda decided not to grease the rear spindle.
The front was easy in comparison, but the tricky bit was lifting the bike and keeping it stable. Paddock stand on the rear, jack under the engine, and a strap helping to steady it. With the wheel out I stuck the spindle back in and rested the from on a stand. Interestingly the front spindle was tightened at the factory by a gorilla, and the caliper mounting bolts are Loctited. My local bike tyre specialists Bike Treads put a set of Michelin City Grips on for me for £102.49. So it was now time to refit the wheels to the bike, but before I did that I fancied trying something new, captive wheel spacers. Tyga supplied me with a set. They are quite simple to fit, just pop them into the existing dust seal. They have a lip that sits inside the seal and holds them in place. With these added I started the fun of refitting the wheels. The rear was a pain. Mainly due to the sprocket carrier popping out every time I looked at it. Having the captive spacers helped massively, but still it was tricky getting everything lined up and in between the arm with the caliper hanger and sprocket carrier slipping out. In the end I had to zip tie the carrier in place before I could get it installed. The front went in without any issue. However still needs to be an easier way to swap wheels. And an easier way to lift the bike. I'm just taking it easy scrubbing the new rubber in and the captive spacers are a performance modification as all four of the new spacers weigh the same as one of the original spacers! |

Re: Operation: Commute
Squirrell,
my other half got a letter today from Honda. There is a recall on the MSX125 to change the fuel pump system. Dealers have been notified to change it free of charge.

Re: Operation: Commute
Yep got my letter today as well. I thought it was just effecting the North America batch, but apparently not. My understanding is it can fail to pump enough fuel through in certain circumstances. Not noticed anything on my bike yet though have read about a few over the pond with issues.
The annoying thing for me is that I have to take it into a local dealer to get them to replace it. I'm fairly confident I can take out and replace a fuel pump, but no they have to do it... How is your other half getting on with it? |

Re: Operation: Commute
She has spent most of the summer since she bought it in Turkey so she has hardly used it yet. She bought it to learn on but hasn't had the time to ride it much. I have ridden it a few times but find its light weight unnerving after the SV.

Re: Operation: Commute
I also like the first one, because it's rediculous.
In fact all those capture what the grom should be about. Fun, and having a laugh. |
