That's second gear on my gixer. I still find it astonishing just how quickly it'll hit 150, especially given how under-powered it feels.

I never ceased to be amazed at just how mental my old Gixer Thou was, and mine was an earlier lardy one. 100mph+ wheelies were just a twist of the throttle away. Champ was saying that someone once asked him how he pulled second gear wheelies on his thou, he replied "you just open the throttle at any revs". The throttle on Gixer Thou isn't simply a device for making the bike accelerate, it doubles as a wheelie height adjuster in the first 3 gears. I found that my Thou was just so utterly competent at 150mph+ that it soon became a perfectly normal speed to travel at on A roads. That was the main reason I sold it.

Underpowered feeling? Isnt yours the 117bhp at the wheel?

Mine hits just under the tonne in 2nd, but 3rd will happily crach 120. Its just silly how fast a bike will hit silly speeds when you want it to. I can hit 155 (indicated, though my speedo seems to agree with revs and gear ratio's) on the local bypass and from roundabout to roundabout its maybe 1.5 miles. Just silly. Also pretty scarry how the front comes up if you arnt leaning forward with the head down in 3rd, never mind the lower ones.

This is why I take it easy on the streight bits now, too easy to destroy the licence, in the corners I have more fun and its less risky on the licence.

Our national speed limit is way outdated, having been introduced back in the early 60s when a fast car was a cross-ply shod 1500 Cortina Mk1 that couldn't stop from its top speed of 90 within a week and handled like a drunken pregnant hippo on roller skates. I don't hold with the government's 'Speed Kills' rubbish. Speed doesn't kill, inappropriate speed, bad driving, rappers and a lack of a decent punishment for causing 'death by dangerous driving' does.
+1
Most accidents are because of driver error.

In my opinion outright speed doesn't kill its misuse of speed
I heard it was something like the top speed of an Anglia that brought in the 70, i.e. well out of date

I ride at a pace I am happy with & that I know I am in control. I read the road & the conditions & ride accordingly.
