To know, and to think you know, are exactly the same thing. The "think" only implies a level of uncertainty. However you can "know" something that is completely untrue, simply by being wrong

The trouble is, if you believe in one thing with no evidence to back it up, then, by that token you must believe in everything anyone ever tells you.

Magic? Monsters in the core of the planet? Time travel? I believe these things exist- so should you.

I'd dispute that anything exists that can't be described in terms of muck, grease, wars and mathematics

this is the thing, i can give the the entire story or circumstance, and it can be argued, explained away beacuse writing it down is totally different than actually being there and witnessing the event itself. If you dont believe or dont want to believe then other than expirencing a simlar thing yourself, isnt going to change it.

However, the details were...the pub i worked in alegedly had a ghost. The pub was originaly an old coaching house. It was apprently haunted by the old landlady. Not an eveil spirt (No pun intended) but one that just generaly wandered around not doing much. 3 of us all saw this 'Presense or Ghostly sighting' at different times and all were the same 'shape' but in 3 different parts of the pub. The Cellar (My sighting), the upstairs corridor (The assit Mgrs sighting) and The lounge (The landlords sighting) all explained it in the same way, the same sort of apprearance. I have also had a similar expierence in a place i used to work in.

I dont believe that ghosts or spirits are what we envisage them as being in movies, they can just be a shape, or a haziness, as were both the things i have expierenced.

Doesn't follow, sorry. Everyone has their reasons for believing in what they believe, rational or not. And they may have witnessed something that no-one else has. Impossible to prove, but remember that an observed fact requires no proof (to the observer, as the observation is enough proof in itself, assuming a rational mind).

I'm dead serious, you can't deride science as an absolute method. It is the reason you are sat there in a heated house because somebody decided to figure out the muck, grease and mathematics of how water turns to steam. Not just watching water dripping onto something hot and calling it supernatural.

Fact is science is everything. If something is not explained by science then the physics model of the universe is wrong. Who knows, one of the precursors to string theory (I think, been a while), suggested gravity was a force "leaking" in from a parallel universe, hence its weakness compared to other forces active in this universe.
Maybe ghosts "leak" in from another universe, maybe they are a distortion of space-time causing peoples actions to reappear.
Who knows. Until it is proven scientifically, it remains as a vague collection of stories to be told around campfires.

Let's be honest, I'd dispute anything.
