Default Bit of a shot in the dark but... How long do brake pads last?

Hi guys,

I know it's like asking "how long's a piece of string" (yes, yes, I know.... twice it's half.... ) but I was just wondering what the normal "life" is that most people experience from a set of pads.

I'm doing between 80-100 miles/day, either m-way/Dual or nice twisty A-Roads (sadly more mway now ) and tend to use engine braking over caliper braking....

I've just swept passed the 15k mark (13 with me on it) and the pads are beginning to look a little low... it's my first bike "long term" bike so I've no real experience with pad longevity - can change the feckers, but not sure how long they should last.

So... any approximate figures?

Cheers,

Al.

It all depends how hard you are on brakes,I got 24,000 from my originals and only changed them for the MOT as they were low but still in perfect working order. Better to be safe than sorry so if you consider yours to be low change them, but remember to bed them in after changing them[Bit like scrubing new tyres in]

A bit surprised your pads are looking low if you're using the brakes as you describe. Might be worth checking that they're not binding.

20k+ would be my answer.

While I cannot be 100% sure as I am the second owner I doubt that they were changed from the originals. I am looking to replace them shortly though. The bike has 67,000 on the clock. And I'm talking about the front pads. And I don't use the rear brake.

When I write this down it sounds like I really got my monies worth!
