Do you put on a rentec sports rack? It specifies 2.5 kilos, which quite frankly is utterly useless as this is 2.5 bags of sugar!!

How much have you loaded onto it?

And yes I know its supposed to put you off tying your grannie onto it, but, it just interested me as I've just purchased one.
Its not a permanent fixture, just for long journeys such as the AR or France. Also the grabrail will go back on once its been used, until next time, cause I need that to manhandle the bikes around the garage. I wouldn't like to think the rack would stand up to so much manoevering around

I got one of these that i just use for the annual trip to Europe. Like you when i first got it i thought I may as well not have bothered for 2.5kg!
Although I didn't think the fixing is that great I must have had a fair amount more on it than what they recommend.
Thats not to say I 'recommend it' but I took the opinion that for 10 days a year it would be fine. And so far no problems.....

I've carried considerably more than that. In fact at least three times that. Not saying it will be fine for you to do so, but I had no issues.

whats it like plonking so much weight on the back for accidental wheelies?? I'm very light and a bit worried about the front/rear weight ratio. does this make sense?

A bit more than 2.5 kilos on it!

I had that weight and then Jo riding pillion who was a full 2 and half stone more than she weighs now. Wheelies were easy to achieve. All you have to do is be a bit more gentle pulling away. Front also becomes a little more unstable.

Never measured the weight I've put on it, but it makes a nice handle for lifting the rear of the bike for maneuvering in the garage...
