Default K3 Engine fix -case split

So im supposed to use one of these? - eh its over 100 quid! - the haynes book of lies says use a special clamp but doesnt really show how its made...

here is the official tool ...

I was wondering since all this does push on the rear chain side cam shaft to to split them could i not use a large c-clamp with a bit of wood on the fixed end to protect the inside of the cylinder?

Otherwise it's back to the drawing board, unless some kind soul in the central scotland area can lend a hand thats done it before!

See if you can split it normally first.

There's some tabs stuck out of the cases near the split line IIRC. Knock them with a bit of wood or nylon hammer or something.

Cases need to split evenly because of dowels, make sure you get all the bolts as some are inside and not immediately apparent.

Using a soft hammer - preferably rubber and light - after removing all the bolts tap around the joint firmly first, this helps to unstick the cases a a bit.
Then gently use the tabs/pry points around the cases to bring them apart. As Chris says make sure they come apart as evenly and parallel as possible.
Under no circumstances lever between the case halves - they're very easily damaged and won't seal when you bolt them back up.

I have split couple hundred of them without that tool. Soft hammer works fine.
