Cracked case and big end (oh Marton) looks probable

Sure, but I'd wait for the outcome of this before making a decision.

Sounds like it needs new bearings, but we would have to strip it down to be sure. As for the front block being warped, I should have a spare out the back that you are more than welcome to.

Thanks, just considering whether to do this mod to my dads curvy, the gear change certainly isn't as positive as my K5.

Theres no cracked case, its had a new alternator plug on it since that 'incident'.

I won't ever put it out for parts, just need the correct person with the correct knowledge, tools, time etc to do it properly...so it'll stay there until such a day arrives. I was running it and riding until Pete and Lissa sent me the new engine....was just a matter of convenience rather than properly investigate the problem

Job for YC?
Could ask me mate, but you may wait a few years. Took him 6 year to get round to finishing the VX800 motor in his da's bike

the head gasket is made up of 3 layer black bit then shiny bit then black bit, simply take the shiny bit out of the middle, the gasket is punched togeather so might need a screwdriver to prise them apart

ps this info is from zoran on twf

im going to be doing it, along with slotting the ignition pick up to advance the ign.

what else are you planning on doing ?
