ps this info is from zoran on twf

im going to be doing it, along with slotting the ignition pick up to advance the ign.
I see. However as the front is now on I'll pass on this mod for this time. Maybe on the next engine...

Pop back later and you'll see. But to be fair its a fairly standard swapping type of mod.

You've written that as though you believe it's a valid excuse for not checking the oil.

That incident happened when I didn't know what I know now, courtesy of YC.
These days I am completely anal about checking the oil, I used to rely a lot on someone else (read ex) doing things like that.
The impact driver incident and subsequently having to swap an engine, in fact the whole bike rebuild had YC teaching me so much, not that confident about doing a lot, but the understanding is there.

Part 10; Heads Up:

With the piston's and barrels on its time for the valves and timing is everything. Cleaned them up to remove some of the carbon build up but stopped short of removing the valves totally.

With the valves heads on the cams need to go in. Remember to get the engine rotation correct before trying to put the cams in as if you don't things will not line up and if you don't check the rotation gently you can do a lot of damage. For this engine I had another rummage in the garage and came up trumps with a set of later cams to do the traditional cam swap. Using the instructions on here and on BARF I marked the old cams and installed them (more than once but lets never talk about that again)

After the cams were installed valve clearances were the order of the day. The inlets were in tolerance, however the exhausts needed to drop one shim size. Note as a tip here take all of the shims out if they are going to be replaced to get the correct current sizes before ordering replacements as the shims on the front cylinder may not match the shims on the rear...

Finally its the valve covers and the engine covers. The great book of lies says that the water pump on the clutch case should be taken out to facilitate the removal of the clutch cover, in hindsight I don't think this is strictly necessary, but would like to know others opinions.

The valves cleaned up

And on the engine

The new and old cams

Front timing marks

Rear timing marks

Make sure everything is on

And then add the covers

More covers

And the engine assembled

Thing about taking water pump off is not right, they are talking about 2gen.
