Default Recommend Me: A Garage Floor...

Picture the scene: A fresh single garage. Yours to do as you please. Starting with the floor what would you do?

I was thinking of painting the floor but then thought about rubber matting, or even carpet. The garage is intended to be used correctly so bikes going in and out to be worked on so I need something hard wearing but not industrial. Money is a consideration, but then so is value.

Your choices, reasons, and links to products please...

Mines got free carpet off Freecycle.

When that gets too dirty I'll get another piece.

I saw some interlocking rubber tiles on Ebay which I was going to buy, but carpet is cheaper and warmer

Flotex flooring is quite hard wearing, plus warm to stand on

Paint is too cold to stand on for too long

Red industrial floor paint.. I kid you not, you will see anything you drop on the floor and it will seal your floor for you.... also remember to perhaps have some space for ground anchors etc.

+1

Did mine with the interlocking 3/4" thick rubber tiles, then old carpet on the top.

Not cheap, cost me about £300+ to do a 20' x 12' floor. Stood up to three years wheeling bikes in and out without a mark so far. Warm and not so hard on my old knees as concrete, can't fault it.

fwiw, flotex is def not a cheap option. Most folks cant jusitfy paying for it to go in a house, let alone a garage..
Oh and i mean even at trade prices! extortionate lol

I relaid my garage/workshop floor a couple of years back. Thoroughly recommend two-pack epoxy floor paint, way way more durable than normal floor paint. DIY do-able, I used the solvent based version from here , very smelly to use but very good.

For workshop use, I picked up a couple of thick rubber workstation mats from a place in Brum, I've seen the same thing on ebay, around £17 each I think. Comfy and keeps the cold out of your feet.

We've got red garage floor paint and the old lino from the kitchen with bits of old carpet around aswell.
The lino is prtty hard wearing, but careful with wet tyres and boots. Touchwood I've been fine so far

Yup. Red floor paint (screwfix stuff) to seal the floor then carpet.
I started by being all careful with the floor paint, but later just sloshed it out the can and then rollered it on. Worked fine, looked fine.
