P2P Route chat & Suggestions
OK, Ive had a nosey at th rout through France and think we should have a stop at a WW cemetery in N France on the 1st day as it would ti up nicely with the 1st nights camp stop. Anyone got a particular one they would like to visit?
Day 2 would take us don to Le Mans to see some track and ride some thats public acces. When done, continue on the route down to the Millau Viaduct, 2nd nights camp en route to it. Day 3 will take us to the viaduct and some stunning photo opportunities then hopefully through to N Spain to camp again. I havent looked at the Spain part of the trip yet. Looking for feedback and other ideas for France 1st. Cheers, Phil. |

Re: P2P Route chat & Suggestions
I take it the crossing would be to Dover?...
I went to Normandy with Fizz and co, where I found the American cemetery and memorial above Omaha Beach to be very moving. Although not British it does give a sense of the scale of the sacrifice made to liberate Europe. This is probably 5 hours riding from Calais, possibly more. After visiting the area, we could head off to a camp site I found in 2007 near(-ish) to Le Mans, the municipal camp site at Chateaudun. This is cheap and clean, with good pitches. Of course something closer to Le Mans could be found if others know better. Next morning could be off to Le Mans to have a nosey / ride before setting off on the next leg. Re: P2P Route chat & Suggestions
Ahh forgot about that... then perhaps a visit to one of the WW1 cemeteries / monuments in Belgium then? Tyne Cot cemetery really affected me on my visit, but given the huge battles in the region in WW1 there are many to choose from. Here is an alternative route that takes in Ypres, where the great monument of Menin Gate preserves the memory of thousands who have no grave. After that it goes via Paris for the three laps....
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=...ls&vpsrc=0&z=6 Another starter for 10.... EDIT : Alternative WW1 Memorial is at Thiepval - bit more on our route too.

Re: P2P Route chat & Suggestions
If we do go to Millau Viaduct then it may be an idea to go down the D907.

Re: P2P Route chat & Suggestions
That is easy, I must have done it a hundred time, 3 laps that is (Corporate offices about 100yard away) The difficult one is to only do the bit you want as in on, 3 junctions off.

All suggestions will be listed and a vote will be done as a poll, I`ll start with what we have. If there are alot of wishes, the ones with least votes will be dropped if all cant be fitted in.
1. WW Cemetery in N France. 2. 3 Laps of the Arc Of Triumph (bet the french love me for the English version) 3. Millau Viaduct. |

Re: P2P Route chat & Suggestions
Can I make an honest suggestion......you can tell me to booger orf after
This trip is a very very big trip in miles and stamina, cost...also a test for a shed of a bike to get to the other end. Its physically and metally tiring on even the most proficient of bikes. Much as all the fun suggestions at this stage, look great, to make the trip great and memorable for all, once out there though, its likely to not be so. Its a 1500 mile trip in one direction. I've done 600 in one go in a day across France, and its hell(if you've never done so much as a couple of hundred) .....specially when it rains. I know you are looking to do it in sections, but, surely the ideas are running away with themselves?. They look fun for now, but might not be such a good idea when you get out there. Simplify makes for more fun on this particular type of trip, over complicate, your gonna get a whole load of tired, grumpy, fecked off peeps. I ain't trying to pi$$ on anyones bonfire, and its all camerarderie etc, but reel the ideas in, and make it successful, and hope it don't end up a shambles. Remember the core ethos, the OP idea, and what you're doing it for. Stick to the path(cause the further daan saaf Frogland, the more local they get ) Please don't let it turn into any other bike trip, as it looks as its easisly snowballing towards. SHEDs, 200 quid, 1500 miles in one piece........ Love Dizz. os, Neither God, nor her husband were home today, so didn't get to find out good routes to help.....sh1ts are probably sunning themselves in the garden!!
